Arnold Harris Obituary

Arnold Harris, 66, of New Haven, CT, departed this life on April 29, 2025. He was born to Arthur Harris and Katie Porter on September 23, 1958. Arnold worked at Amtrak for 44+ years before retiring from his position as a C&S Safety Liaison for the Northeast Corridor (NEC). He began his career as a signalman directly after graduating from James Hillhouse High School, where he played football. Given his age and years of service, he was often teased that he really started work shortly after birth. He will be remembered as someone who loved people and expressed his love through simple yet meaningful actions. He would often call or pull up with the radio on and a cooler in the back ready to talk, listen, joke, and laugh. Arnold often gave food and clothing to church donation programs or simply gave them away to people he knew or saw in need. He had a passion for football and was a proud and faithful Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Arnold is survived by his former wife Bettina Harris; children Harold (ShaVonne) Harris, Brittany Harris, and Nichole Harris; grandchildren Aniya Harris and Harold Harris, Jr.; sister JoAnn Pearson; stepbrother Sean Cameron; nephews Robert Pearson, Jr. and Craig Pearson; niece Rhonda Pearson; and many more family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur Harris and Katie Porter; and brother-in-law Robert Pearson. Please join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, May 8, 2025, between 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon at McClam Funeral Home, 95 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, CT.
