William Walter Hunter

June 12, 1928 — April 6, 2022

William "Bill" Walter Hunter was born on June 12, 1928 in the town of Bengough, in the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, to Edna Esther (Horn) Hunter and Walter Henry Hunter. Five months later, he migrated with his parents into the US by way of Seattle, Washington, where his family settled in Northern Idaho. He graduated from Kellogg High School in 1946 before enlisting in the US Navy. After the completion of his tours, he returned home to marry Eddena (Dena) Stein in 1953. Bill worked for the President of the Bunker Hill Mining Company, before relocating to Spokane, then to Boise, and Portland where he worked for Boise Cascade and then Univac. In 1969 Bill took his family east with Univac and in 1974 took a management position with what is now known as the American Counseling Association in Washington, DC. He remained with the Association for the remainder of his professional career.

Dad was pre-deceased by Dena in 2017, his loving wife of over 63 years. During his retirement, they traveled the world and he became an amazing creator of stained glass. Above all, Dad loved his faith, his family, and the world around him. He never ceased to find beauty and joy in nature, culture, and adventure. In his later years, he found so much happiness in seeing the ponies on Assateague.

He is survived by his three children Edward Hunter (Eve Arber), Beth LaBrunda (Lou), and Charles Hunter. He had two grandchildren, Shannon DiFilippo (Steve) and Alexander Kaiser; three great-grandchildren Haley, James, and Caitlin DiFilippo. He is also survived by step-grands Keith LaBrunda, Kam LaBrunda (Artie Marinoni), Katie Radler (David), and Kris LaBrunda (Lauren); and his step great-grandchildren Rachel LaBrunda (Andre), Joshua Radler, Sarah Radler, Jack LaBrunda, and Emily LaBrunda.

Special recognition must go to his youngest son, Chuck, who devoted the last five years of his life to caring for his father around the clock. Chuck's gift to his father will never be forgotten. We would also like to thank the staff at Catered Living in Ocean Pines, who aided Chuck in providing loving care for Dad over the last few months.

At a time we have yet to determine, the ashes from both Dena and Bill will be buried with a family service in the Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg, Idaho.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Bill by donating to the World Central Kitchen, as they provide meals to so many people in distress. [email protected]
