Martin Francis "Marty" O'Connell, age 60, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and formerly of Hudson, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 after a courageous battle with depression. Born on March 18, 1963, in Hudson, Wisconsin; Marty was the son of Martin W. and Nancy L. (Rogers) O'Connell. Raised in Hudson, he graduated from high school in the class of 1981 and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. In 1983, he married Cynthia Ventler and together, they raised 5 beautiful children.
He worked in the ministry for 16 yrs. His lifelong love of reading and study of theology, brought enduring faith in his Lord and Savior. He also served as the Chief Informational Officer for Phillips 66 Credit Union.
For Marty, the Lord was paramount. And after his love for the Lord, was his family. He took immense joy in witnessing their children grow into adulthood. He cherished moments of fine dining with loved ones and savored the taste of aged whiskey. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. As someone adept with numbers, he found delight in tutoring Bubby in math. Marty eagerly anticipated quiet nights at home, indulging in movie marathons with his wife, children and grandchildren, especially introducing Rhowan to his favorite films. He held dear memories of road trips with Ady, sharing stories while driving back and forth from Arkansas.
Marty's sharp wit and well-timed one-liners endeared him to those around him. He had a gift for making strangers feel genuinely welcomed, and his authentic approach made everyone feel heard and loved.
Marty is survived by the mother of his children, Cynthia O'Connell; and their five beloved children, Heather Mitchell, Lorelei Andrews, Victoria O'Connell, Martin "David" O'Connell (Kayla), and William O'Connell; grandchildren, Adyson, Rhowan, Christian "Bubby," Maximus, Alaina, and Ella; sister, Colleen O'Connell; stepmother, Patti O'Connell; brother-in-law, Scott Snyder; sister-in-law, Denise McCue; niece and nephew, Manny and Emmaleia Kardaras.
