Kennewick, Washington - With profound sadness and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Harlan Clark Boynton on December 13, 2024, at age 79. Born in Normandy Park, Seattle, to Edward Neil and Emogene May Boynton, and was preceded in death by his parents. Harlan's journey was marked by an unwavering devotion to family, professional excellence, and genuine kindness.

A Washington State University graduate in Bacteriology and Public Health, Harlan built a distinguished career safeguarding public and environmental health. He began his professional career with Grays Harbor Health and Benton Franklin Health Districts as supervisor before joining the Hanford Department of Energy contractors. His expertise and leadership led him to serve in various crucial roles with Rockwell, Westinghouse, Fluor Daniel, and CH2MHILL Plateau Remediation Company. As a Principal & Senior Engineer of the Industrial Hygiene Safety and Hazardous Materials Organization and later as an Environmental Compliance Officer, Harlan made significant contributions to Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities, Waste Receiving and Processing, and Liquid Waste and Fuel Storage, ensuring compliance with State, Federal, and OSHA regulations. Beyond his professional achievements, Harlan was a man who embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He cultivated bamboos and banana plants that reflected his nurturing spirit. He had passion transforming his home showcasing his creativity and skills. He found joy in dancing, traveling, cooking and spending precious time with his family. His radiant smile and gentle spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Harlan is survived by his loving wife, Mayble, and their cherished children: Matt and Erin Boynton of Seattle, and their daughters Katrina and Madison. Mike and Klarissa Boynton of Pasco, and their daughter Emma. Steve Boynton and John Fulton of Seattle. Alexis Vasquez of Pasco, and her children Keoni and Jana Vasquez. AJ and Cheryl Lavarias of Seattle, and their daughters Lily and Veda. Ryan and Sue Jean Hong-Lavarias of Long Beach, and their son Asher. Harlan is also survived by his only brother Paul, Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington, wife Barbara of Edmonds, along with their sons Ryan, Jeff, Greg, and Eric, and sister Evie Boynton of Shoreline.

Harlan's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family. His bright spirit and gentle soul will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service celebrating Harlan's extraordinary life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Christ the King Church in Richland, Washington. A rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by mass and reception at 11:00 a.m. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all, to Positive Nature Home Health, who shared in Harlan's journey and invites loved ones to join them in honoring his memory.
