Paul Kaltinick Obituary

Paul R. Kaltinick

December 1, 1932 - November 28, 2024

Pacific Palisades, California - Paul R. Kaltinick, 91, December 1, 1932 - November 28, 2024 of Gig Harbor, Washington, died peacefully surrounded by his daughters on Thanksgiving morning. Paul was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is survived by his brother Ira Kaltinick, daughters, Vera Kaltinick, Margie Franzheim, and Pam Fillo, son-in-laws Tom Petersen, Harry Franzheim, and Chris Fillo, and grandchildren Tyler Franzheim, Aaron Franzheim, Benny Fillo, Henry Fillo and Lily Kaltinick. Paul was predeceased in March, 2024 by his beloved wife, Alice of 70 years, also from Brooklyn, New York, parents Morris Kaltinick and Vera (Halpern) Kaltinick, and brother Arnold Kaltinick. Paul will be remembered as a fiercely loyal and dedicated son, brother, husband, parent, grandparent and friend. He had an innately curious mind, keen sense of humor and life-long love of fishing, which he enjoyed with friends and family. Paul graduated from Pace University in 1954 with a BA in Accounting. He then served as a Lieutenant with the United States Marine Corps on Parris Island, South Carolina from 1954-1956. Following the Marines, Paul began his professional career, which included seventeen years at JCPenney in New York, where he served as treasurer, vice president and director of financial management. In 1980, Paul and Alice relocated to Tacoma, Washington where Paul was responsible for launching The Frank Russell Trust Company, and acted as its president and CEO, and as a managing director for the Frank Russell Company. After retiring from Russell, Paul began a successful second act as a commercial real estate investor and founding partner of Quintessence and Obelisco Vineyards on Red Mountain in eastern Washington.

Paul was a great boss, leader (friend) at JCP. He hired me in 1970. I followed him as President of the JCP Financial Corporation, Wilmington, DE.

I was so sorry to hear that Paul had passed. I spoke with Paul shortly after Alice had passed and how hard it was for him. Paul and I stayed in contact after JCP. He was so helpful to my partner and me. I remember most the career opportunities he gave me. I am so grateful. I know he loved his family so much. He was a wonderful human being.

I have wonderful memories of my Uncle Paul. Visiting him and my Aunt Alice in their lovely homes in Tacoma and West Hampton, and their cutest dog Ginger. I remember fishing with him and having the best salmon of my life, on the Seattle pier which started my life long love for this fish. A great brother to my father Ira, he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Rest in peace Uncle Paul.

Ron Halpern (Paul's cousin): my father, Eli was Vera's brother.

I have many wonderful memories of Paul over the years. He was very fond of
my parents and extremely helpful to my Mom (Helen) during some sad and difficult times. Here are just a very few memories I wanted to share.
When I was a teenager our family lived in Oceanside. Paul and Alice with Vera shared a "Locker" one summer with us at the Hewlett Bay club, which was close to Oceanside. They were very happy times.
During my time in Law School Paul offered good advice for my plans after graduation.
After Paul started investing in real estate he came to Boston with his partner to meet with me at Berkshire Mortgage. We were very impressed and did a few deals together. It was great to do business with my cousin.
I will always be grateful for the kindness and empathy he had for my Mom.
Paul was generous and thoughtful and will be missed by all of us.
My thoughts are with his family at this time. For me, Paul was my dear cousin who was there for me and my family.
