Fred Johnson Obituary

Fred Johnson
June 29, 2022
Edgewood, Washington - Born in Tacoma to John and Mable Johnson, Fred passed away peacefully in his Edgewood home on June 29, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife of 57 years Kathy Johnson, who passed away November 2, 2020.
Fred grew up in Tacoma and attended Lincoln High School. He joined his father in working at the Port of Tacoma as a Longshoreman in 1961. He worked diligently beside his four brothers, George, Larry, Lloyd, John and brother-in-law, Harvey Wilson.
He enjoyed the challenge of logging operations. During his years at ILWU Local 23, his Union family of brothers and sisters continued to grow until his retirement in 2000.
The Johnson Longshore legacy continues proudly to this day.
Fred was a quiet man who expressed his joy in family gatherings, especially during holidays. Decorating for Christmas and Halloween was his forte. His Easter egg hunts were highly anticipated for the extended family and many friends. His generosity and hospitality knew no bounds. Fred valued tradition, making annual family trips to the pumpkin patch or celebrating Independence Day at the Oregon coast. He enjoyed collecting things, landscaping, and working on puzzles. He traveled all over the world. During his recent travels, he enjoyed exploring Ghost Towns and Covered Bridges.
He is survived by his five children, Liz (Cary) Harlow, Selena Youngman, Cindy (Steve) Platt, Fred (Lisa) Johnson and John (Jae) Johnson. He was blessed with thirteen grandchildren who loved their Papa - Brooke Harlow, Tallen (Donny) Franklin, Carlyn (Alex) Hannum, Stephen Platt, McKenzie Youngman, Fred Johnson, Dakota Platt, Victoria Youngman, Allison Johnson, Saige Johnson, Alexandria Youngman, Logan Johnson and Nathan Johnson.
His wishes were no services be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation, in Fred's name, to Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care. ( www.vmfh.org/our-foundations )
