Cecil Brower Obituary

Cecil Lloyd Brower

August 25, 1953 - March 17, 2025

Fircrest, Washington - Cecil Lloyd Brower of Fircrest, WA lost his cancer battle March 17, 2025. We, his family and loved ones, are heartbroken.

Cecil was born in Bremerton, WA August 25, 1953 to Lloyd C. Brower and Donna Brower (nee Marrs). He was preceded in death by his parents and stillborn sister and is survived by his brother, Dan Brower, of Fairbanks, AK as well as his wife, Cherie Morgan and step-daughter McKenzie Morgan (Melissa), uncles David (Kay) and Harry Marrs and aunts Betty (Todd) Knie and Pat Schwerd as well as numerous cousins.

A true renaissance man, was our Cecil. He was a gifted musician, an entrepenuer, an artist and lover of nature and the great outdoors. He at different times owned a wine shop and also a vintage clothing store, Galaxy Bizarre, in the Merlino Arts Building, which he co-owned with his childhood and lifelong friend, Theron Phillips. Cecil was also a road musician for a number of years, having once even played with Roy Orbison. His last two local bands were The Kings of Oblivion, with whom he recorded a number of CDs, and most recently The Grayhounds who gigged in and around Seattle.

Cecil became interested in Japanese culture and music, leading to his taking up the shamisen, a kind of Japanese lute and playing for Mary Ohno's Kabuki Academy for many years (over 20) at festivals and cultural events. He traveled twice to Japan with this group to play, once at the National Theatre of Japan in Tokyo. At the time he was the only American to play the shamisen in front of a Japanese audience.

In the midst of his other endeavors Cecil returned to school to pursue a bachelor degree at University of Washington Tacoma. He went on to work at the library there until his retirement in 2019.

RIP Cecil. You were a treasure to many.

A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.

I'm sorry to hear this news. Only met him once while walking my dog. We had a nice conversation about changes in the yard he was making. Wish I would have known the depth of his interests and experiences. I appears he did it right.
