Doris Orris Obituary

Doris Marie Orris, 92, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023. She was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Wilkinsburg, to the late William and Fannie Wood Meyers. Doris was a waitress for much of her life, serving at Eat'n Park Restaurants when waitresses roller skated to cars, and New Kensington institutions, Andy's Restaurant, the Ken-Mar Hotel, Grants, Murphys as well as the cafeteria at Allegheny Ludlum. She met her husband, the late Gene T. Orris Sr., at the Ches-A-Rena, and they shared 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2009. Doris took great pride in her family, watching it grow with each arrival of a new grandchild and great-grandchild, enjoyed decorating and making her home beautiful and loved to make and share her famous fudge. She was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of New Kensington, and their Altar Guild, and had recently attended Riverside Community Church in Oakmont. Surviving are her children, Debra (Alan) Adams and Gene T. (Beverly) Orris Jr.; grandchildren, Alan (Nicole) Adams, Jamie (John) Medure, Jodie (Jason) Gordish, Stephen (Lisa) Serena, Stephanie Serena and Julie (Matthew) Smith; great-grandchildren, Allison, Haylee, Lindsey, Hannah, Ava, Samuel, Dylan, Katie, Omar (Nichole), Cassidy, Delaney, Joshua, Lauren, Aileen and Marlee; and her much anticipated first great-great grandson, Omar III, who is due any minute! Kaye Meyers also survived Doris, her sister-in-law. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Alice McAnany, Bertha Glass, Lorraine Matassa, William Meyers, James Meyers and twins, William and Edward Meyers, who died at birth. Viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
