Dawn Viertlbeck Obituary

Dawn Marie (Sutton) Viertlbeck

Dawn Marie (Sutton) Viertlbeck, age 67, of Point Place, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, peacefully at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio-Perrysburg. Dawn was born on December 19, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, and grew up in Temperance, Michigan. She attended Bedford High School and graduated from Clay High School. After high school Dawn attended Greenville Tech and worked as an electrical engineer for the Daniel Company. In 1988, Dawn worked as a correctional officer with the Lucas County Jail until 2000.

Dawn had an amazing sense of humor and a great outlook despite her health issues. She kept everyone on their toes and laughing. She was a Lucas County Master Gardener, a member of several garden clubs, D'Holzhacker Buam Schuhplattler Gruppe, and the G.A.F. supporting the festival in many different ways over the years. Dawn loved cooking, crafting, reading, and animals, especially her Rottweilers, "Mama's Babies". Anyone who knew Dawn knew she a huge sports fan setting her alarm on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. for NCAA Football season. She loved the University of Michigan, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Lions, and was a member of the Toledo Goaldiggers Hockey Booster Club.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Jeff Viertlbeck; sisters, Sue Kunkel and Linda Wright; sister-in-law, Rosemary (John) Roesner; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Pat) Viertlbeck and Michael (Olga) Viertlbeck; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pat Sutton; brother, Paul Spengler Jr.; father, Charles Sutton; and many aunts and uncles in Australia.

A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo, OH 43610, at 11 a.m., where the family will greet visitors one hour before service. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Toledo Animal Rescue, 640 Wyman St., Toledo, OH 43609. Dawn's wishes were for disposition through donation to the University of Toledo Anatomical Program. After her program with the University of Toledo, there will be a Celebration of Life Planned, "Dawnie's Dance Party." Please keep in touch for these future plans.

Dawn was an amazing person - someone many looked up to. I met Dawn through the Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program and was grateful for her participation and involvement. I kept up with her through Facebook. She will be missed by so many. She is enjoying a very special garden in heaven - until we meet again. Thoughts and prayers to Jeff and her family and friends. Sending prayers and blessing to Jeff and family. I grew up with all the Viertlbecks in the old neighborhood and Jeff was the youngest. Thinking of you Jeff at this time of loss. Patty Etue-Stephens
