Wilhelm, Rudolph E. "Rudy"
GLENVILLE - Rudolph E. "Rudy" Wilhelm died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on January 13, 2024, following a short illness. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1934, he moved to the Bronx at the age of nine and graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School. Afterwards, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Intrepid until being honorably discharged in 1962. He worked for N.Y. Tel. and AT&T before retiring in 1985. Following retirement, he was asked to come back under contract to teach at their school.
Rudy and his wife, Dorothy, traveled annually for many years to Aruba, where they made many special friends. He loved German festivals, food and music, and was an avid listener to the Rymanowski Brothers Sunday morning Polka Spotlight. He loved calling Bingo and playing pinochle. His joy was spending time with his cherished family any chance he had.
Rudy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy: three daughters, Laraine (George) Michaelides, Trudi Dauphinais, Karen (Scott) Passino; and by his beloved grandchildren, Brian and Libby Dauphinais, Rianna, Ethan and Jake Passino, Kara and John Michaelides. Also, survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Al Avitabile; and many nieces and nephews. Rudy was predeceased by his only sister, Jeannie (Bob) Hirsch.
Calling hours for Rudy will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m., at the funeral home. Rudy will be laid to rest with military honors on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 12 p.m., at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road Schuylerville, N.Y. 12871. Those wishing to attend please meet at the cemetery at 11:45 a.m.
