Eileen Hatala Obituary

OLD FORGE — Eileen Marie Hatala, 80, of Old Forge, passed early Sunday morning, Aug. 7, 2022, with loved ones by her side. She was the widow of John "Jackie" Hatala, who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 2010.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Arthur and Marie DeFine Brown, she was a graduate of Coughlin High School and a parishioner of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, prior to its closure.

Eileen was the light of her family's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family. She extended this motherly love to her children's friends and neighborhood kids; coming outside to hand out popsicles and baked goods was a common occurrence. Eileen was remarkable in so many ways; she hand-made holiday clothes and Halloween costumes, could bake anything from just looking at a picture, and had meals on the table for her large family (and any friends or workers) 6 – 7 days a week. She never missed an opportunity to say "I love you"; and hugs were given daily. She was a mother like no other and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Eileen's family would like to sincerely acknowledge Compassionate Care Hospice for the superb manner in which they cared for her and her loved ones.

Surviving are her daughters, Shari Miller, and husband Glenn, of Old Forge, Darcy Berti, and husband Lawrence, of West Pittston, June Scavo, and husband Joseph, of Old Forge, and Nina DelVecchio, and husband Tom, of Dunmore, her sons, John Hatala III, and wife Barbara, of Dickson City, and Gregory Hatala, of Old Forge; her grandchildren, Sidney Miller, Seth Miller, Larry Gino Berti, Allison Berti, John Hatala IV, Dr. Jessica Hatala, Dr. Gia Scavo-Lehman, Cali Scavo and Nyla DelVecchio; her great-grandson, Elliot Lehman; sister, Rosemary Fabbrini, of Duryea; brother, Arthur Brown, of Kingston; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eileen was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann; and brothers, David DeFine and Theodore Brown.

The funeral will begin Friday at 9:15 a.m. from Ferri & Gillette Funeral Services LLC, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Prince of Peace Parish, 123 W. Grace St., Old Forge. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Orthodox Cemetery, Minooka section of Scranton.

Relatives and friends are invited to Eileen's viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 (or go to www.heart.org). To leave an online condolence visit www.ferrigillettefuneralservices.com or the funeral home Facebook page.
