Richard Sanderson Obituary

Richard S. Sanderson, 80, died on April 22,2022, at Westerly Hospital. Born in Providence, raised in West Barrington, he was the son of Alma (Dietzel) and Richard Sanderson. Dick attended URI, but interrupted college to enlist in the Army, and served at Walter Reed Hospital in Wash.D.C. Returning to URI, he graduated in 1969, having made many lasting friendships in Kingston. He worked at Meadowbrook Herb Garden and various odd jobs, before beginning a 50-year carpentry career. He lived, worked, and made friends all over South County. A man of many interests, Dick loved winter sports, shell-fishing, gardening, art exhibits, and hiking the White Mts. He volunteered at Waterfire, and even skipped bopping at the Knick to join a folk dance troupe that performed throughout Europe. Dick is sorely missed by his cousin Whitney Carpenter, and by Whit's family, and also by his nieces in Italy: Giulia, Elisabetta, Federica, and Sara, and their young families. They are the daughters of his late sister Kate, and her husband Giuseppe. Zio Ricardo spent many of his happiest days with the Marabini family in Romagna.
