Paul Casady Obituary

Paul D. "Cass" Casady, 72, of Exeter, RI passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after fighting a valiant battle with cancer for seven months. Born in Unionville, Missouri, Cass was predeceased by his father and mother, Lauren and Florence (Locke) Casady of Shannock. He was the cherished husband of Rita (Cuevas) Casady for 28 years.

Cass was the loving father of Tonya L. Casady, Shane (Carolyn) Casady and Jamie Casady. He was the cherished Dad to Kimberly Kennedy (Timothy Beauregard) and step-father to Frank and Sean Kennedy. Cass also leaves behind his brothers Keith Casady and Leonard and Elwood Sherman and his sister-in-law, Audrey Cuevas. Cass was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine Tierney and his brothers Lauren (Butch) Casady and Dan Sherman.

Cass's life was enriched by the many grandchildren he shared with Rita. He enjoyed several affectionate monikers, Grandpa, Cassman and Bubba. He is survived by Danielle Workman, Luna, Pearl and Clark Casady, Caitlin Marley, Felicia Andrews, Nikole Kennedy, Bradlee Workman, Kelsey Brayman, Dean and James Kennedy and Timothy Palmer. He also enjoyed several great-grandchildren including Aaliyah White, Lily Parkhurst, Bria and Thatcher Kennedy and loving Bubba to Mason Frechette. Mason called it accurately when he said "My Bubba doesn't have to fly. He is a superhero." He is survived by many nieces and nephews including Brian, Kevin and Lauren (godson) Casady, Dale, Brad and Michelle Sherman, Ashley Cuevas, and Dale Casady,

Cass and Rita shared a beautiful love story that spanned 31 years; traveling to forty states and three countries. Together, they loved to entertain and celebrate everything. Cass was an avid golfer, enjoying his time at Wood River Golf Course with his friends, family and favorite bartender, Pam.

He loved car cruises shows, classic cars, the proud owner of a Red 1967 Chevy Nova that won awards, trophies and recognitions.

Cass was a quiet, thoughtful man with a big heart, offering to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was the wind beneath Rita's wings. His involvement in every aspect of their life was evident even if he chose to be in the background. He spent much of his time volunteering with the Chariho Rotary, helping with Swamp Yankee days, fashion shows, golf tournaments and giving many physical hours to the planting of trees, bushes and laying sod at the Chariho Rotary Courtyard at the High School. His volunteer efforts earned him the recognition as a Paul Harris fellow. Cass and Rita supported the Arcadia YMCA. He volunteered for many fundraising activities and also supported the Reach Out To Youth fundraising efforts.

He raised chickens and loved to give fresh eggs to his friends. Cass was a member of the American Legion Post 34 in Charlestown. There was not ever a more loyal supporter of the Boston Celtics, and this surprising season gave him great joy. Cass served in the US. Army Reserves and was a drill sergeant.

He was employed by Pfizer for 35 years before retiring in 2006.

He loved his home, his yard, his life. He was loved by many. Cass was indeed a superhero and now he does have his wings.

Paul and I were Home Room friends at CHS from 7th-12th grade. I will always remember him for his kindness, engaging sense of humor and best of all driving me from Ashaway to my Immaculate Conception church wedding Sept., 1971. Prayers to all his family. Peggy Catto Jansen

I knew Paul from working with him at Pfizers for a lot of years. He was a good friend, coworker and would lend a hand wherever needed. We golfed on occasion and myself and others helped him clear his property (trees etc.) to build a home. He will be missed.
May God be with the family at this time. Peace, Bob Wunsch, Groton
