Marjorie Misovich Obituary

NORTH STONINGTON - Marjorie (Mitchell) Misovich, of North Stonington, Connecticut, passed away at Westerly Hospital on Saturday, March 14th, 2026, in the company of her loving daughter Karen. Marjorie was born on December 12, 1942, in New London, Connecticut to David Innes Mitchell and Marjorie (Martin) Mitchell, and grew up with her sisters Mary Jean and Margaret in idyllic Andover Connecticut, where she graduated from RHAM High School. She met her future husband and the love of her life, Stephen G. Misovich, at the University of Connecticut, where she earned a double bachelors degree in anthropology and social psychology. Soon after graduation they moved with their son Stephen and daughter Karen to North Stonington.

Marjorie taught in the North Stonington Elementary School system for over thirty years and was extraordinarily devoted to her students. She never forgot the name of a student, or any of their other attributes, and hoped for good things for them all and worried for them all, and read and read and read to them all, and did her best to prepare them for the world.

Marjorie was generous in all ways. She loved to travel, and afterwards to bring relatives and friends to the places she had enjoyed visiting - Rome, and Spain, Scotland, China, Costa Rica, and many other destinations. She concerned herself with the well-being of everyone she met.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Steve, and by her son Stephen. She is survived by her daughter Karen Bobonich and son-in-law Christopher Bobonich of Stanford, CA, her daughter-in-law Kelly (Hooper) Misovich and her beloved granddaughter Lara Misovich of Glastonbury, CT. Hailie (Bomster) Davis and her husband Greg Davis of North Stonington were her honorary grandchildren, and she adored their children Arianna and Jonathan. She is also survived by her sister Peg Klungle and Peg's husband Bill Klungle of Grand Haven, MI, her sister Mary Jean Mitchell and Mary Jean's husband Michael Askenazer of Hayward, CA, her husband's cousin Geraldine Dawson of Colchester, CT, along with Geraldine's daughter Beth and Beth's children; "cousin Charlie" and Phyllis Babek of Colchester, and her husband's niece Rosemarie Clifford and her husband Joe Clifford of Jeffersonville, IN, and many other beloved relatives, including her cousin Druscilla Freeman-Daniels of York, ME and Dru's family. Her teacher friends were very dear to her, and so were her neighbors and the many fellow townspeople who were part of her life, as well as her friend and frequent travel companion Debbie de Fosses.

After the tragic death of her son Stephen in 2020, Marjorie again found a full measure of joy when she met Warren Speh of North Stonington. She and Warren spent many very happy years together.

A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held in May or June at a time to be arranged. Those who wish may make a donation in her memory to the North Stonington Congregational Church, the North Stonington Grange, or to a charity they think best.
