Grace Giddings
Wood River - Grace M. Giddings, 86, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born June 14, 1937 in Coffeen, IL, she was a daughter of Roy L. and Grace (Donaldson) Cannon.
Grace worked as a secretary for the Operating Engineers in Wood River and also CBW Transport in South Roxana. Her favorite pastime was her family….well, that and gambling. She enjoyed shopping at Kohl's and watching the Kentucky Derby with her granddaughter, including dressing up for the race. Wednesdays and Sundays were meatloaf days with her grandson. She enjoyed listening to music, especially The Judds with her other grandson. Anything her kids and grandkids loved, she loved. She also had a keen sense of humor and remarked that her body may have been 86 years old, but her mind was only 50. She loved Christmas, her Florida friends, and drinking margaritas.
Survivors include her son, Steve Giddings of Wood River; three grandchildren, Josh Giddings, Jessica (David) Meeks, and Jacob Giddings and a great grandson Carter, whom she called "Sunshine"; a brother, James Cannon of East Alton; a brother-in-law, Richard Giddings of Cave Creek, AZ; and 36 nieces and nephews. She also was visited regularly by her Aunt, Judy Loyd of Roxana.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings, Jeanette Shepard, Vi Baugh, Doris Anderson, and Richard, William, Laurel, Charles, Pete, Russ, Frank, Carl and Joe Cannon.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Apr. 3 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 12 p.m. until services begin at 12:30 p.m. by her aunt Judy Loyd and her nephew Tom Anderson. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
