Age 91, late of Lockport passed away peacefully under the care of Lightways Hospice on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Lifelong resident of Lockport. Retired in the early 90's from ComEd with over 30 years of service. A devout member of St. Dennis Catholic Church, Lockport. Ray and his beloved wife Polly enjoyed spending time in Southwest Michigan with their friends and family. An avid fisherman and a loyal officiant of local high school and grade school basketball for over 50 years. Ray devoted countless service hours to St. Dennis school and church, and coached youth basketball. He cherished attending his grandchildren's activities and was always their biggest fan. Above all else he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceded in death by his wife, Polly (nee Troha) Mondrella; his parents, Frank and Lottie (nee Gurka) Mondrella; his brother, Rich (Jean) Mondrella; his sister, Dorothy Mondrella; in-laws, George and Minnie (nee Cresto) Troha; three brothers-in-law, Joseph Troha, George (Ann) Troha, and Phillip (Cecilia) Troha.
Survived by his four devoted children, Kathy (Gary) Major of TN, Patti (Steve) Larranaga of Joliet, Mary Lynn (Jim) Zembruski of Joliet, and David (Diane) Mondrella of New Lenox; 12 adored grandchildren, Jeremy, Lindsey (Steven Nagel), and Tyler Major, Michelle (Jake) Nahorski, Lisa (Tommy) Denten, Tony Larranaga, Lauren (Chad) Schwartz, Adam (Josie) Zembruski, Aly Zembruski, Joseph Mondrella, Chris Fawcett, and Danielle Shulman; nine cherished great grandchildren; his dear friend, Jim (Lillian) Rozanski; and numerous nephews, nieces, friends and many dear family members. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Dennis Church, Lockport, or Lightways Hospice in Ray's name would be greatly appreciated.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, in the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel 1105 E. 9th St. Lockport, IL 60441 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. Everyone will MEET at St. Dennis Church 1214 S. Hamilton St. Lockport, IL 60441 on Saturday, March 28, 2026, for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Following Mass Cremation Rites will be respectfully addressed. Private Inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Joliet at a later date.
