Margaret Theobald Obituary

Margaret A. Theobald
Margie was born November 12, 1946 in Joliet, IL, to parents Albert and Mary Ann (née Korevec) Theobald. She passed away on March 13, 2026 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet at the age of 79.
Margie attended St. Paul the Apostle elementary school, then graduated high school from St. Francis Academy in 1964. She then joined the Sisters of St. Mary Immaculate at the College of St. Francis, but left the Congregation during her Novitiate year. Margie then transferred to Northern Illinois University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education.
Continuing her education pursuits, Margie earned a Master's Degree in Science from George Williams College, then taught at West View Junior High School in Romeoville, IL, while earning a Doctorate in Education from Illinois State University in Normal before relocating to Cape Girardeau, Missouri and became a Professor of Education at Southeast Missouri State University.
Cape Girardeau was home to Margie for several years, where she raised her furry family, Mitsy and Molly, with her closest friend and professional mentor, Dr. Sheila R. Caskey of Lawndale, IL.
Margie retired in 2005 as Professor Emeritus. Once retired, Margie and Sheila found peace and contentment at their cabin in Lake Perry, Missouri. Both were avid readers enjoying biographies and mysteries as well as enjoying their love of swimming and the lake. Margie and Sheila also enjoyed traveling together across the U.S. from Alaska to Hawaii and also in Europe and through the Panama Canal.
Margie returned to the Joliet Area soon after Sheila passed in 2013. She is survived by her two brothers, James E. (Deborah) and William (Marjorie) Theobald, both of Shorewood, IL. She is the beloved aunt of Michelle (Tim) Schaefer, Scott Theobald, Melissa (Adam) Zilske, and Christina Theobald; her great-nieces, Brooklynn Schaefer, Emma; great-nephew, Lucas Zilske.
Also surviving are Margie's longtime friends, Judith (Ron) Rittier of Griffith, IN., and Evelyn Lee of Oakland, TN.
As it was Margie's request, private funeral services were held. For more information, please call the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home at 815-741-5500 or visit her Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com, where you can share a favorite memory or leave an online condolence.

I was a student at West View Jr. High in the early 70´s. Ms. Theobald started the first Pom Pom squad. This was before girls sports were even present in school. We performed at basketball games and school assemblies. Great memories.

Last week I lost my Aunt Margie. She led a rich and fascinating life full of education, family, friends, travel and leisure. Aunt Margie always encouraged me to keep reading, writing and creating art. I looked up to her in so many ways and will greatly miss her.
