Nancy Kosman Obituary

Groton - In loving memory of Nancy Saxton Kosman, who gracefully departed this life Feb. 3, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Nancy was born Nov. 17, 1962, in Springfield, Mass.

Nancy's fondest childhood memories were made at Hawk's Nest beach in Old Lyme, where she developed a deep love for the ocean and the simple joys of beach life. Vacationing with the same families and friends each year, she relished in the warmth of the sun, the sound of crashing waves, and fresh, hot, delicious beach donuts.

She attended Waterford High School, where she formed lifelong bonds with a group of friends who remained by her side through the years. Nancy continued her education at the University of Bridgeport, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene. She dedicated her professional career to caring for others, working for the same dental company for 30-plus years with esteemed dentists. Nancy's genuine compassion and ability to connect with her patients endeared her to all who knew her.

Jarod was born in 1999, he brought immeasurable joy and purpose to Nancy's life. Together, they spent countless summers at Eastern Point beach, creating cherished memories with friends. Nancy delighted in Jarod's adventures, especially his passion for wrestling.

Wrestling became a central focus of Nancy's life as she traveled near and far to support Jarod. She was affectionately known as "Crazy Nancy" within the wrestling community for her fierce cheering and unwavering support. Her warmth endeared her to wrestlers and families alike, earning her the title of "mother of wrestling" in the ECC area.

Nancy's green thumb, inherited from her father, Dick Saxton, blossomed in her love for gardening. Additionally, Nancy's love for baking, inspired by her mother, Jan Saxton, was unmatched. She delighted in baking for Jarod and all his wrestling teams, spreading joy and camaraderie through her delicious treats.

Nancy used her strength and grace to face challenges head on and this included her battle with cancer. Throughout her cancer journey, she remained a beacon of positivity and resilience, supported by her loving family and friends, who were her "front row," along with committed doctors, nurses and medical professionals.

Nancy is survived by her cherished son, Jarod Kosman; ex-husband Mark Kosman; her devoted mother Jan Saxton; her brothers, Bruce Saxton and Doug Saxton; sister-in-law Barbara Saxton; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Dick Saxon; and her sister-in-law Kimberly Mahoney Saxton.

Jarod, Mark, & The Saxtons
For perhaps the first time in my life I´m at a loss for words. Nothing I can write here will capture what´s in my heart. There are countless memories (most of which are hysterically funny if not ridiculous). I think the article in the paper about her being the "wrestling mom" captured her essence well, especially the term "social magnetism." I called her "the mayor" because everywhere we went someone knew her and if they didn´t, they would by the time we left! Offering my condolences just doesn´t seem enough. I am grateful that all of you were in my life and am sending my love.

Jarod, Mark and Saxton Family:
My/Our sympathies on the loss of Nancy, the ULTIMATE WRESTLING MOM!! Having known her for many years, we developed a lasting friendship via wrestling and Contemporary Dentistry! I can recall many "cleaning sessions" where we discussed only Jarod, wrestling and sometimes wrestling officials. Always keeping us in stitches, she had that beautiful smile and everlasting sense of humor. I miss sending you food at the office! May your soul REST IN PEACE, dear friend. Keep that wrestling mat in the sky clean and ready "to wrestle"!!

Nancy, you had this special way of making everyone who came in contact with you feel special and loved. I am so grateful that I was lucky enough to be counted as one of your "kids". Even when I went away to college, when we would catch up on my breaks it was like I never left. I'll miss you dearly. May you be free of pain. May your family find comfort in knowing that without a doubt, you love them with all of your heart.
