Jennifer Ryen Obituary

Jennifer Kay Ryen, 51, beloved spouse to Adam Ryen, the love of her life, died unexpectedly on October 1, 2023, at her home in Rochester Mills.

She was born August 3, 1972, in DuBois, PA, daughter of Jerry and Judy (DeSalve) Smart of Byrnedale.

She is survived by her husband Adam Ryen of Rochester Mills, her father Jerry Smart Sr. of Byrnedale, sons Darryn Agosti and Devyn Agosti of Penfield, siblings Gerald Smart Jr. and Jackie, Byrnedale, and Lisa Marchiori and Karl of Penfield, stepsons Connor Ryen of Olympia, WA, and Owen Ryen of Rochester Mills, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jen was a registered nurse, a dream she pursued since childhood, a graduate of DuBois Area High School (1990), and of Penn State University with a BSN degree. Jen became a nurse for all the right reasons - to help those in need. She had a knack for making others feel special.

Jen was a gentle, kind, and thoughtful person, always willing to help those in need, putting their needs before her own. She was a sweet and loving individual, who loved life, her family and friends, and her exemplary nursing career. She and Adam operated their own medical education business known as High Tide Medical. She loved camping, hiking, Penn State, and was proud of her two loving sons.

Jennifer is to be cremated and interred in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Rochester Mills.

Jen will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church in Punxsutawney on Saturday, October 7 at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Mountain Laurel Nursing Home (700 Leonard Ave., Clearfield 16830), SSCD, or to a worthy charity of your choice.

Wonderful Memories for a Wonderful Cousin, Jen was always so happy and enthusiastic about everything she did. We were always happy to spend time together as kids. We especially looked forward to Sundays at Grandma and Pa's home in Hollywood PA. Those were some of the best memories of my childhood. It was always a special Sunday when the whole family was there. Jen will be missed by so many, she truly was a special person in so many ways. My deepest sympathies to Uncle Jerry, Gerald and Lisa.

I'm at a loss. The world lost a great one. I went to UPB with Jen in the early 90's. She IS the reason I graduated. She kept me focused. We studied. We persevered. She mentored me in EMS at BV. She loved her family, her profession, and PSU. I still can't believe it.

Jen was the epitome of kindness, compassion, and had the ability and willingness to pass on and educate others in our profession. A TRUE NIGHTINGALE.

I have been friends with Jen as we went to school together. I can’t express how awful I feel about her passing. My heart aches for you Adam , her children & her family. She always had a smile & was laughing. That’s what I’ll remember about her. She was a pretty lady & a more beautiful spirit!

My deepest condolences to the Ryen and Smart families! Not only did I know Jenn as a classmate of my sister but through Bennetts Valley Ambulance Service, hugging her when she got her nursing degree to taking care of patients together at DuBois Nursing Home. She was definitely one of kind! She always had a smile on her face and was ready to help in a moments notice. Her patients were truly blessed to have her care for them. May she Rest in Peace!
