Joe Shaw Obituary
Joe Brent Shaw, known affectionately as Brent to his friends and family, passed from this life on December 4, 2023, in Paris, TX., just shy of his 50th birthday. Born on December 13, 1973, in Antlers, Brent's life was marked by his charismatic spirit and enduring love for his family, friends, and faith. After earning his master's degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Brent pursued a career that allowed him to follow his passion for sports. He became a highly-respected coach who was an integral part of the Coaching Staff of the Year in 2004, led his Division 2 team to the National Championship, and profoundly influenced many young athletes. Despite his love and success in the world of college sports, his heart was always with his family, so Brent eventually left the world of Collegiate coaching so that he would be able to follow and be present at his kids' games. A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Antlers, he found solace and strength in his faith. His leisure time was filled with a love for the simple things in life -from fishing, attending his kids' activities and sports events, playing fast pitch for the Green Jackets, to the pure delight of playing with his grandbabies, who were the light of his life. He got an extra jolt of joy from harassing Malinda Berkey. Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents: Raymond and Vivian Shaw, as well as Isom and Nancy Loman; and stepfather: Joseph "Jopey" Morris. Brent is survived by his wife: Kelli Shaw; cherished children: Paige Shaw, Levi Killman, Reed Shaw, and Braden Shaw; his mother: Wanie Morris of Antlers; father: Joe Shaw and wife Pati of Idabel; sisters: Leslie Navarro and husband Dondo, and Ashley Youngblood and husband Douglas; aunt: Rita Burke; and grandchildren: Brenlynn and Bowie. Alongside his immediate family, Brent held a special place in his heart for Bryce Martin, a close friend he loved as a son, as well as Billy Jack Wilkerson, who was not only his father-in-law, but a cherished friend and father figure. Services for Brent were held on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Antlers with Reverend Aaron Reed officiating. Services were under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service of Antlers, Oklahoma.
