Larry Miller Obituary

Larry Gene Miller, aged 80, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, at his home in St Francisville, LA. Born on May 26, 1944, Larry had a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Larry grew up in Baton Rouge, the third of five children of Eugene and Ella Miller. His childhood was spent outdoors camping, hunting, and fishing with his family. He put himself through college and while there, fell in love with his sister's roommate, Nora. They married soon after graduation and ready to break away for adventure, Larry took a job in Phoenix, AZ. Larry and Nora loved the West and made great friends and adventures. But eventually Larry was called back home by the green trees and flowing water of South Louisiana.

He survived and thrived in the many transitions of the banking industry by offering to be of service to the next new leader. From CPA, to loan officer, to COO, to helping found the Business Bank of Baton Rouge, Larry's colleagues speak of his great trust and belief in them to expand beyond what they saw as possible. They also tell stories of fun - how Larry infused joy into everything - even hard work.

Larry was a lifelong learner and teacher. He prided himself on being able to do it for himself, whatever "it" was. He was a voracious reader, a lover of good food, music, art, and poetry. His curiosity and knowledge made him a worldly man, despite his preference for staying close to his roots.

After retirement, he and Nora moved to St Francisville, LA, and after finding the perfect property, he worked for two years alongside his brother-in-law, Joe Johnson, to build a custom home out of Larry's own vision. Nearly all windows, the house reflects his love of the outdoors. When Larry wasn't entertaining his friends, you could find him watching the creek run in the back or the blueberries mature in the front with a strong cup of coffee and freshly-baked bread.

Larry was lucky in love two times in his life, in his fifty-one-year marriage to Nora and the last seven years with his girlfriend, Nanette Rothkamm. Larry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jenny Miller; his daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Nicholas Moelders; his grandchildren, Arianne and Moritz; and his siblings, Lindol "Dee" Miller and Steve Miller.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry's memory can be made to the Baton Rouge Food Bank, an organization he deeply cared about. Larry's legacy of kindness, wisdom, and joy will be remembered by all who knew him.

Larry G (with that St. Gerard "G" - I'd recognize it anywhere)!!!
Thank you for being a wonderful boss, mentor, and friend. You believed in me and gave me responsibilities that stretched me far beyond what I thought I could accomplish. Thank you for giving me the push to take those grueling accounting classes at LSU (straight As and a C in Cost!)and thank you for getting only a little bit aggravated at my tardiness to cash counts. You were a great boss, and we all enjoyed coming to work every day. There were so many wonderful and funny things that we shared over the years. I watched your precious kiddos, Mike and Renee, grow up and you watched my sweet Angie! Also, I loved your dear Nora so much and I know she loved you with all her heart - she told me that! When you get to heaven, don't tell her that I never used that French Bread pan that she inspired me to purchase - I wasn't brave enough to compete with her delicious creation!! Rest in peace, Larry G! I love you and will miss you.

Really sorry to hear of Larry's passing. We only had the pleasure of spending time with him and Nora on a few occasions but the stories and funny moments from those few hours still come up some 20yrs later!

Uncle Larry, you will surely be missed. You were also definitely loved by me and my children destany, Casandra, and Hannah. You will be remembered for the rest of my life. I looked up to you and aunt Nora as a role model in my life. I was so grateful and had the pleasure of spending that day with you. I remember that day you made a joke several actually it had me laughing all day long. That was the first time I´ve ever seen that side of you and I´m sorry that I didn´t stay in touch with you more. As your family, Renee, Michael, and your two grandkids go through this hard time may their hearts be at the east and know that you´re in peace and you are now reunited aunt Nora. And God bless your girlfriend has been there for the last seven years of your life. He was a sweet woman that I had that lovely chance to meet may God be by her side as well through this hardship. We love you and I´m so happy you´re at peace. God bless y´all.

Renee, Mike and family, I´m so sorry to hear about your Dad- he was everyone´s Dad in our little group! I remember all the laughter and music in your house growing up and I still can´t here Van Morrison or the "Almond" Brothers without thinking of him and Nora dancing. He was such a great person and great father.
