OWENS

Denison- Elizabeth Ann (Beth) Owens, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, Mimi, and friend went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on April 14th, 2025.
Beth was born on April 4th, 1954 to Willma Joy (Steffey) and Joe Bob Young in Mckinney, Texas. Beth graduated from McKinney High School in 1972 and from Texas Women's University in 1976. Beth married her soulmate Claude Michael Owens in 1978. Beth lived a full life devoted to being a good wife, raising her three children, educating students, having fun in retirement, and spoiling her five grandchildren.
Beth and Mike were married for 47 wonderful years. In their early years of marriage, they tried to always find time for each other. Their tradition was to enjoy a steak dinner date at home together after the kids went to bed. During retirement, they loved to travel and find treasures for their antique booths. They often traveled to Eureka Springs, Arkansas and recently went on an Alaskan cruise and had the trip of a lifetime. After 47 years together, Beth jokingly knew what Mike was thinking and finished his sentences.
Beth was an exceptional mother and loved Nick, Courtney, and Sarah unconditionally. She enjoyed spending time with Nick while taking care of animals on the family farm and doing DIY projects together. She loved shopping and traveling with Sarah and going along with Sarah's adventurous whims. She adored Courtney's passionate spirit, talking to her about anything and everything, watching her become an amazing mother, and becoming her rock during times of chemo treatments.
Beth was an educator for 30 years. She was a general education teacher and a special education teacher for many years at Bells ISD. She then became a principal at Anna ISD where she retired. As an educator, she was open-minded and innovative while implementing educational best practices and programs. Beth went above and beyond helping her students such as buying them food, school supplies, and clothes without wanting any recognition. Many of her students and teachers she led have shared that Beth made a profound and lasting positive impact on their lives.
After retiring from education, Beth started an antique business called Beth's Place. She really shined when she was able to put her creativity, craftiness, and eye for design into a fun and thriving business. She had antique booths across Texas, Oklahoma, and Branson, Missouri. Many precious memories were made shopping and traveling for her business with family and friends. Beth would say her greatest joy in life has been spoiling her five grandchildren (Kylee, Corbin, Lane, Levi, Lindy). Mimi created special traditions for her grandchildren such as baking gingerbread men together during sleepovers, planting jelly beans into pots that turned into suckers overnight on Easter, going trick-or-treating together at Halloween, having silly string fights on birthdays, and getting the girls James Avery charms for Christmas. Her grandchildren would say they loved her hugs, the trips they went on together, and her playing with them the most. Ultimately Beth has left a lasting legacy of love to her family and friends. She was patient, humble, attentive to the needs of others, reliable, a constant source of comfort, and gave the best steadfast advice. She loved her family well and her family loved her.
Beth is survived by her husband, Mike of 47 years; their three children, Nick, Courtney, and Sarah; daughter-in-law, Ashley Owens; son-in-law, Chris Allison; sister, Betsy Shanks; sister-in-law, Jane Ann Layton; nephews, Drew Layton, Tony Shanks, and Mason Shanks; and grandchildren, Kylee Allison, Corbin Allison, Lane Owens, Levi Owens, and Lindy Owens. Beth was preceded in death by her parents Willma Joy and Joe Bob Young, brother-in-law, Jack A. Shanks; grandparents, Babe (Albritton) and C.J. Young and Duffey (Gaddy) and Lee Roy Steffey.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, April 18, 2025 at Winfield, Texas Cemetery. You may honor Beth's fight against cancer by donating to a breast cancer organization or a pancreatic cancer organization of your choice.
