Edna HERBERT Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the quiet passing of Edna May E. Herbert, age 95, on June 1, 2022, after a short battle with a brain tumor. She is now in the loving arms of Jesus. Edna May was a first-generation American, born in Spokane to Swedish immigrants Carl and Annie Berglund. She grew up as an only child on a small farm in Pasadena Park (Millwood area). Her cousins lived nearby and they were like sisters to her. Edna May and Vernon knew each other at WV High School and reunited after WWII. They were married in 1948 at Millwood Presbyterian Church and had three children: Connie, Dennis, and David. We spent our childhoods boating, camping, and going on many adventures. Our parents joined the Roadrunners Camper Club and we camped with them all over the NW and Canada. She and dad loved Camp White on the river in Post Falls. When we were kids mom would pack up dinner and when dad got home from work we would go out with our boat for the evening. Mom kept her trailer at Camp White for many summers in later years. Mom joined Millwood Church in 1944 when she was 17 years old. She made many dear friends during her 78 years as a member there. She belonged to Crafters, Women's Group, Mariners, and Bible study groups among numerous others. Mom was the most loving mother and friend. She was loved by all who knew her. Mom was a great baker and cook. We all loved her cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies. She always had a can in her freezer for company. She baked many lemon pies for her neighbors. She and her dad loved to garden and grew vegetables, flowers, and fruit on 1/2 acre. Her dalia garden was second only to her mom's. Reading, game shows, and bridge kept her mind sharp. She was part of many Bridge groups over the years and played every week until three weeks before she died. Edna May and Vernon traveled the world. They loved visiting new places and seeing how others lived. Edna May loved her extended family in Sweden. She spoke Swedish and was able to communicate with her older aunts and uncles when she was there. She even Skyped her cousins three weeks before she passed. Edna May lived independently and drove her car until November 2021. She was the rock of our family. We love you mom and we'll miss you dearly until we are together again. We are grateful to have had you with us for so long. Thank you to all her precious friends and family who loved her, prayed for her, and visited in these last weeks. Edna May was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, in 2001, her son, Dennis, in 2019, and numerous other relatives. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Ross (Larry), her son, David Herbert (Diana), daughter-in-law Crystal Herbert and five grandchildren: Jennifer Ross (Kerry), Nathan Ross (Brianna), Ashley Tabor (Garett), Jessica Jaffe (Ben), and Joseph Herbert (Anna). She also had eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on August 14, 2022, at 1 PM at Millwood Presbyterian Church. Donations may be given to Camp White care of Millwood Presbyterian Church or your charity of choice.

I grew up across the street from Edna Mae and Vernon and all the kids. We had many games of "kick the can" in their beautiful yard. And those flowers that she tended with such love and care took your breath away! Our parents were good friends, and we also spent wonderful times at Camp White. Edna Mae was such an integral part of the fabric of my life, that her presence will always be with me. As I´m sitting here, I realized that I don´t think I ever called her Mrs. Hebert! She was always Edna Mae, and that says a lot to me. My heart is with her and all of you Herberts! I loved your mom.
