Brian Ellis Obituary

Brian Patrick Ellis

October 10, 1960 - August 31, 2024

La Quinta, California - Chief Warrant Officer Brian P. Ellis, a dedicated Naval submariner and Cold War veteran, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, at the age of 63. Born in 1960 in Stamford, Connecticut, Brian enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 20, launching a distinguished career as a nuclear power technical specialist that spanned over a decade.

After his Navy service, Brian settled in California, enjoying a successful multi-decade career with PG&E's Nuclear Division in San Luis Obispo. He also proudly served in the California National Guard Reserve during the Second Gulf War.

Driven by a lifelong passion for learning, Brian earned a bachelor's degree in history from Chaminade University of Honolulu and a law degree from the Colleges of Law in Santa Barbara, CA.

Brian was a member of the fraternal order, Knights of the Rose and served as a pillar of the community through his tireless contributions to St. Luke's Episcopal Church and his role as Commander of VFW Post 2814.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Liz Harned; son Thomas and daughter-in-law Evann; daughter Mary Kate and son-in-law Stephen; stepchildren Victor and Kayla Plotkin, and Robert and Michele Hamaker; and eight beloved grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Laura and brother-in-law Tom, and brother Brendan and sister-in-law Kathy.

His dedication, kindness, and willingness to share knowledge will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on October 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Atascadero, CA, to celebrate Brian's life and the profound impact he had on so many.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Atascadero VFW Post #2814, honoring Brian's commitment to service and community.

Rest in peace, Brian. Your legacy lives on in our hearts.

Miss you brother. You were one of the good guys. You had as many things going on as the rest of us, but you didn't complain. It was always good to be around you. Best wishes to your family. And I am purposely writing this as if you are going to read it.

Dear Liz, family and friends of Brian,

To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
Liz and family... "may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV).
