Judith Eddy Obituary

Judith Ann Eddy

January 1, 1945 - March 11, 2025

Judith Ann Eddy (Judy) passed away on March 11, 2025. Judy was born January 1,1945 in La Crosse to Bruno and Mildred Walden and was the First New Year's Baby of the year. The Tribune took pictures and printed the announcement on her first birthday in 1946.

Judy graduated from Central High School in 1963. Her business teacher knew she was interested in pursuing a secretarial career and knew she already had the skills and encouraged her to interview for a job at the La Crosse Board of Education. She was hired as the secretary to the Business Manager and Supervising Engineer.

Judy married Randy Eddy, Sr. in 1965. They moved to Winona, Minn. where they resided for six years. She was employed at Winona State College working for the Vice President of Administrative Affairs. They then moved back to Onalaska and Judy began work at Gateway Foods Accounting Department. In 1977 she started to work for Don Zietlow, who was President of Gateway Foods. Gateway was sold to another food wholesaler in 1989, but Judy continued working for Don as secretary/administrative assistant now at Kwik Trip and worked with other entities he was involved with. She worked with Don for 36 years until retiring in 2012.

Together Randy and Judy were fortunate to travel to many beautiful places on company trips, yearly vacations in Florida where Randys family lived, as well trips to Europe…those being the most memorable of all. Judy's father was born in Innsbruck, Austria and came to America when he was only 18 years old and had not seen his family since. In 1988 Judy and her sister took their parents to Innsbruck, to visit his remaining siblings.

Throughout the years, Judy and Randy were actively involved in community events such as Riverfest, Oktoberfest, Freedom Honor Flight, the MS Walk, and various others.

Judy was the ultimate organizer. She was the keeper of things, papers, documents, secrets, and yes, even in triplicate. If you ever needed something, Judy always had it. Her knack for detail and her eagerness to help made her an invaluable resource to everyone around her. She never wanted to be in the limelight or be recognized for these qualities, but she was "that one" behind the scenes, making sure the "I's were dotted and T's were crossed."

Judy brought so much beauty and love into this world. She always made things extra special. She brought such elegance, grace, and care to everything she did. It was everything she was. It wasn't always work for Judy, she loved parties, dressing up, playing games, and just being goofy with her family. There will never be anyone quite like her. Her kindness and thoughtfulness will always be remembered.

Judy is survived by her husband, Randy Eddy Sr. of 60 years; son, Randy Eddy Jr. of Onalaska; daughter, Tanya (Bryan) Goetting of La Crosse, four loving grandchildren: Annie (Garrett Schiffler), Amber Eddy, Victoria and Barrett Goetting, and one great-grandchild, Delaney Eddy-Schiffler. She is further survived by her brother, Wayne (Kathy) Walden of St. Joseph, Mich.; sister-in law, Mary (Curt) Walden of La Crosse, and many close relatives and friends.

She was preceded into death by her parents: Bruno and Mildred Walden; brothers: Robert (Bob) Walden, Curtis (Curt) Walden and sister, Gwen (Walden) Wooden.

We wish we could have one last hug, one last thoughtful conversation, and one last laugh with Judy. She made such a huge impact in our lives, and we will carry her memory with us for the rest of ours. We love her and always will. We will miss her every day.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at First Lutheran Church, 410 Main Street, Onalaska. Pastor Jason Stanton will officiate and burial will be in Onalaska Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

The family would like to thank the entire Mayo Hospice team for their support during the last 10 months of her life, especially hospice nurse, Jody.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to charity of donors choice.

Judy and I went to school together for twelve years. We were school bus partners, and attended the same classes most years. We had a good friendship, especially at Longfellow Jr. High, and Harry Spence Elementary. She was a fun person, and was nice to everyone. Prayers and condolences to the family.
