To the Thomas family, you have my sincere condolences. The Thomas family were among some of the Altgeld Gardens community original pioneers. Big John, as he was sometimes called, was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School. He was a gentle giant who was known throughout the AG community and a force to be reckoned with. Nobody messed with Big John. He became a member of the well-known Altgeld Gardens, Jackson Raiders Drum & Bugle Corp - the baddest majors & majorettes in all Illinois. John was the lead drum major. Everyone loved to see Big John out front strutting his stuff with that big drum! He was a big brother to many of us. I always respected him, he looked at me as a little sister. He will be missed by many in his old hood. RIP Big John! The Woods family.

Dear Gail, I was very sorry to hear of the passing of John. I hope that your precious memories of your lives together will sustain you during this time. John was an excellent role model and example of a true servant of God. His work in the kingdom of God helped to make Israel CME Church a blessed place of worship. I regret that I will not be able to be with you in person to celebrate his homegoing but you and your entire family are in my prayers. 1Thess. 4:13-18
