Bruce Bradford Obituary

Bruce M. Bradford, age 75; transitioned on June 8, 2022, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Hobart, IN. Bruce was born on October 15, 1946, in Dowagiac, MI; the son of the late Fornay and A. Lucille Bradford.

Bruce graduated from Thomas Edison High School, Class of 1966, in Gary IN. He attended Indiana State University and earned his degree in Mechanical Arts. Bruce was drafted and served in the U.S. Army. He became an Industrial Arts Teacher for Gary Community School Corporation for 30+ years. He taught at Emerson High School. He served many students, is fondly remembered, and deservedly retired.

He was married, in 1975, to Mary Ann Alexander; that union bore his only child-Alexandria Joi Bradford. This father and daughter relationship brought him happiness and a great sense of pride. Bruce, as a former educator, spoke encouragingly of Alex's career as a teacher. His companion of 25 years, Diane Rouse, and may she rest in peace, had 2 daughters: Nicole Bradley and Jennifer Rose. Bruce lovingly named her grandchildren, "knuckleheads:" Amber Johnson, Faith Rose, Halle Bradley, and Jamal Rose.

Bruce was one the founding members to charter the first chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at Indiana State University. He loved woodworking and sharing his niche with family and friends. After his retirement, he enjoyed golfing with his best friends Riley Jones, Robert Miles (deceased), and Kevin Higgins. Bruce was admired and loved by many; he had a host of genuine, kind, and long standing friendships through school, college, the military, and work.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clinton Bradford; his sister, Bonnie Bradford; his brother, Eurby Bradford Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory and solidify his legacy, his daughter, Alexandria Bradford of Indianapolis, IN; Mary Ann Bradford (former wife) of Gary, IN; Ryan Bradford (niece) of Gary, IN; Rashad and Davonte' Bradford (nephews) of Bakersfield, CA; and Willa Turk-Domio (loving godsister) of Estill, SC.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday June 24, 2022, at Smith Bizzell and Warner, 4209 Grant Street, Gary, IN. Visitation hours 9:00-11:00 am with Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 am. Repass location: Château Banquet Hall; 530 W 61st Ave, Merrillville, IN 46410; immediately following the funeral service. www.smtihbizzellwarnerfuneralhome.com

To the entire Bradford family, May God Grant you peace above all understanding in this time of sorrow. Mr. Bradford was the assistant baseball coach at Emerson High School. I still remember all the tuff workouts that he and coach Gates would put us through each baseball season. The workouts finally paid off for us in the 1976 season as the Emerson Golden Tornadoes tied with Gary Roosevelt for the Northwest Conference Championship. 1976 was many of our senior year and it allowed us to graduate as champions. RIP Coach Bradford you will surely be missed by all.

Bruce represents the ideology of an Alpha man. As a student and brother at ISU he was instrumental in developing our chapter and the realization of chartering Zeta Rho Chapter at this university. His personality reflected that of a man who was straight forward, leaving no questions about his opinions and beliefs. That is so rare today. My brother will be missed. may He Rest In Power..06'

Bruce and his brother Clint were long time friends of our family. When I was younger I would sit in Ms Turk's Barber Shop and just listen at grown folks talk. Bruce was such a good guy and when I became grown he was a great bartender!!! He will be missed!

To the entire Family of Bruce M Bradford,

On behalf of the Gary Edison High School Alumni, and the Class of 1968, I extend our condolences to all of you.

May his Soul, through the Mercy of God, Rest In Peace.

Bruce was a friend to all of us at Edison. He played on the "BLAZERS" boys Varsity team, in 1965, along with my late brother, Michael Fredrick Dunn (1947-2019).

In 1968, as a freshman Howard University Civil Engineering student, when I had traveled to Hampton Institute, Virginia, for Homecoming, at halftime, I met up with Bruce, who had traveled to Hampton from Indiana State University, Terre Haute.

Bruce also attended the Gary West Side Holiday Basketball Tournaments, and the Gary Basketball Alumni Super Sectional Basketball Tournaments.

Bruce was liked by all, and, will be missed by many.

Sincerely,

Tony Dunn,
* Edison 1968 Senior Class Vice President;

* Howard University, College of Engineering, Class of 1972

Swiftly pass.."
