Robert Hagerty Obituary

Robert "Bob" Hagerty died at home February 21, 2022 at age 89. Bob was born on December 30, 1932, in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife Grace Atkinson Hagerty, his children, Robert Hagerty Jr. (Kim), Robin Wiseman (Tom), Lisa Twohey (Mike), Holly Meyerhoffer (Fred), his stepchildren Ruth Yuhasz (Nick), John Lownsbury (Patti), Suzanne Lownsbury, his eleven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hedwig Hagerty, his brother William A. Hagerty and sister Ruth Ingebretsen.

Bob attended the University of Delaware, on a football scholarship, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He served 4 years as an officer in the U.S. Army, which took him to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Over the years he worked for several national companies in real estate development. In 1973, he moved his family to Louisville, Kentucky with Kentucky Fried Chicken. He later retired from Blockbuster Video, which brought him to Virginia Beach. He loved his family, lifelong friends, sports, playing games, especially Bridge, and his country. Even though his children lived in different states, he rarely missed a graduation, holiday, wedding, or special event. He was the life of the party, a gracious host to many in his Virginia Beach home and will be greatly missed. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA.

I´ve known the Hagerty´s since 8 years old. Holly is my very best friend in the whole world. I grew up over at the Hagerty house and boy was that fun! Bob always treated me just like a daughter. My fondest memories are those fun times spent with the Hagerty family. Memories of parties many parties celebrating all occasions to no occasion at all and yes each one was an absolute blast. Bob took me along with Holly on many vacations, dinners (from the fanciest places to McDonald´s), atleast 100 trips to get ice cream (Swensons, one trip too embarrassing to mention) and to my first R rated movie (The Omen... and no I was not 18 think Holly was 10 and me 9? Don´t ask me how he got us in ) I spent more time at Hollys house than my own growing up. I will miss Bob so much and I know my dad will too. I love ya Bob. Thank you so much for everything you did for me. There really are too many to mention on this page. Love, Kimmie

He was kind and generous. He was positive and optimistic. He was loving and charismatic. He was my dad and the best a girl could ask for. I will treasure our travels and moments we shared. I live by you advice. I will miss and love you forever. Thank you for being my awesome father
