Justin Freestone Obituary

Justin Tyrel Freestone age 37 passed away peacefully at Providence Alaska Medical Center on 24 July 2022 due to complications from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

He was born on August 24,1984 to Ardin Gale Freestone and Kathleen (Taylor) Freestone in Roosevelt, Duchesne County, Utah.

He lived in Vernal and Ogden Utah until his family relocated to Soldotna on 24 July 1995.

He attended Redoubt Elementary School, Soldotna Middle School and graduated from Soldotna High School in 2003, who recognized him as the 2002 "Outstanding Yearbook Student of the Year". He went on to attend Kenai Peninsula College for one year where he was recognized by the student body as the "Most Inspirational Student" for his dedication and perseverance in education. He received the 2002 "Spirit of Youth Award" from the State of Alaska for his volunteer work to help raise funds for MDA. His activities included being a member of the local Boy Scouts of America troop, participating in the local MDA Fill the Boot drive put on by the Soldotna Fire Department.

Justin and his family were sent to Hawaii twice by the Make a Wish foundation where he enjoyed the sun and surf. He also enjoyed a ride in a dogsled as part of the ceremonial start of the Tustumina 200 dogsled race.??He was chosen to be the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Good Will Ambassador for the State of Alaska for 1998 and 1999 where he attended the local Jerry Lewis Telephone campaigns and was a special guest speaker and spokesman for the disabled in Alaska. He attended MDA Summer Camps, and clinics and participated in Lock Ups, and muscle walks for fund raising and served as an MDA of Alaska Executive Committee Member after relocating to Anchorage in 2010. His final move was to Wasilla in 2020.

Justin loved the outdoors, enjoyed nature walks, botany, making tinctures and natural medicines from local plants. He loved Co-Op Survival games that stimulated his mind, Sci-Fi movies, reading and learning all he could. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and lived a Christ-like life. ??He is survived by his mother Kathleen Kirby, Step-Father Allen Kirby (Wasilla) , Sisters Ashley (Freestone) Beatty (Jameson) Escondido CA, Randi Freestone (Pontiac MI), and his brother Adam Freestone (Wasilla), Grandmother Virginia Freestone (Grand Junction CO) ??He was preceded in death by his father Ardin G. Freestone, Lloyd H Freestone (grandfather), Frenna Hadley (Roy) grandparents, John L and Renee Taylor (grandparents). ??

Funeral Services will be on 4 August 2022 at the Brayton LDS Chapel, Anchorage at 11 am. He will be laid to rest in the Kenai Municipal Cemetery on 5 August at 12 pm.
