Donald Moffis Obituary

Donald Keith Moffis, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend, passed away at his home alongside his family in Kenai, Alaska on January 4th, 2022 after a 3-year battle with Cancer at the age of 64.

Funeral Serivces will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Our Lady of The Angels Catholic Church 225 S Spruce Ave – Kenai. Burial will follow at the Doyle Family Cemetery.

Don was born on September 30th, 1957 in Caldwell, Idaho to Linvel and Geral Moffis, and the older brother to Dan Moffis. Don was raised in the Kuna area of Idaho where he graduated high school in 1976. During his high school years, he was deeply passionate about wrestling and also played football. He spent most of his time outside of class, playing sports, and working on his ford pickup truck. After graduation, he stayed around Kuna working concrete construction for a housing developer for several years.

In 1982 he had his first son Jeremiah. It was also the year him and Dan loaded up their dodge 4x4 with nothing but concrete tools and bags of beef jerky and made the trip from Idaho up to Anchorage, Alaska to continue working for the same development contractor on new projects he had up north. Don and Dan decided to stay in Alaska and a few short years later Don found his way down to Kenai, Alaska. There he worked for Doyle's Construction, for the father of his now wife, Joann Doyle. After a few short years, they married and began to grow their family. By 1996, they had 4 more children; Melissa, Shane, Matthew, and Nicole.

In 1997 Don and JoAnn started their own business, JD Contractors Inc., where he mastered in concrete construction. He continued with his passion of wrestling by coaching the Kenai Kavemen wrestling team where he coached his son Jeremiah and bonus son, Ron Winger. Don led them to multiple championships, for many years.

With the help of his father Shug (Linvel), sons Jeremiah, and Ron; he grew JD contractors into a highly reputable construction company throughout Alaska. Don looked forward to the winter months each year taking his family down to Hawaii. There, they vacationed while also working construction alongside his brother, Dan. Two peas in a pod.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, traveling with his family, and helping those in need; especially the less fortunate. But above all, his greatest pride was the life he was able to give his family. The endless hours, hard work, and sacrifices he made every day to provide a better life, never went unnoticed. He grew to have a tremendous relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, was selfless to no end, and always put everyone he loved before him and his own life.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn, sons Jeremiah, Shane, Matthew and Ron, daughters Melissa and Nicole, brother Dan, mother Geral (Uehlin) Moffis, step-mother Laurel Pickering, father Linvel Moffis, nephew's Dallas and Austin, and his 7 grandchildren, Sierra, Marissa, Justin, Emma, Tessa, Mia, and Kingston.

To the beautiful Moffis family,

My heart aches for you all and for all of us who were blessed to share in Don´s life. To occasionally sit beside your husband, your father, your friend during these past three years was a gift. I had the privilege of coming to know his heart in a way I never knew before. He was a tough man with a tender heart who loved his family deeply. He adored each and everyone of you. His eyes lighting up as he shared stories with me. And because of his great love and adoration for you, he fought so hard to overcome.

He didn´t understand why he didn´t get well (nor do we), yet he did understand that death could not separate his love for you. He knew and spoke of the day to come when he would be with his family again forever. This consoled him and gave him peace. Heaven has gained a beautiful person. It is we who suffer for a time the pain of separation. But I can´t help but ponder that he is now along side Jesus preparing a place for each of you.

Into your hands, we commend his spirit, O Lord.

We are saddened to hear of Don's passing. Don always did the concrete work for us at GLM in Kenai, always an excellent job and so great to work with. His easy going way and happy disposition made working together a good time. Our condolences to the family and friends....

Don will always be in my heart as a remarkable father figure to my son Ron. We met him nearly thirty years ago when I signed him up for wrestling where Don selflessly coached in spite of his grueling work schedule. From that day forward, Don took him under his wing and even gave him a job when he became old enough where he worked side by side with Don and molded him into the wonderful, hard working family man that he is today. I will always owe a debt of gratitude to Don for the role he played in my son´s life. May he Rest In Peace.
