Denise Cox Obituary

Soldotna resident Denise Jay (Harman) Cox, 64, passed away unexpectantly at home on July 31, 2022. Denise was born July 31, 1958 in Fairbanks, Alaska to Irene Jane Albayalde-Robinson and David John Harman. Denise was Tlingit Kaagwaantaan clan, Filipino and English. Denise lived in Fairbanks, Alaska up to the age of 9 years when the family moved to Anchorage, where she lived until 1975. She moved to Clam Gulch with her family in 1975 and soon thereafter, met the love of her life, Sid Cox. Denise and Sid were married in May of 1982 and together raised a family of four boys, Sydney, Geoffrey, Alex and Andrew in Clam Gulch and Soldotna.

Denise's family remember her as a servant to all. She was always an optimist, never saying a disparaging word about anyone, a loving and devoted mother and caregiver, and very spiritual in her outlook on life. She was an avid golfer, taking charge of the lady's golf group every Tuesday. Denise was an extremely intelligent and articulate woman who enjoyed reading, word puzzles, old tv shows and sewing. She and her family welcomed many kinds of pets into their home including cats, dogs, snakes and a chameleon. Denise took an active role in her children's education, volunteering consistently throughout their schooling.

During her life Denise was a commercial fisher woman, continuing to mend nets into the 2022 season; she took an immense interest in her Tlingit culture and heritage, worked at the Clam Gulch post office, her parents law office and the Peninsula Center hospital over the years but her truest dedication was to her children.

Denise is survived by her husband of forty years Sid Cox; her four sons Sidney Darius Cox (Laura), Geoffrey (with a "G") Tyler Cox, David Alexander Cox, and Andrew Steward Cox; parents Irene Albayalde-Robinson and Arthur "Chuck" Robinson; step mother Eloise Pricilla Harman; aunties Janet Fagan and Patrice Thatcher; sisters Theresa Claire Harman-Carroll (Buck), Kathleen Louise Harman, Jacqueline Carol Tagaban (Alfonso), Theresa Kessler, Cecile Cruz (Edwin), Delana Haag (Derik), and Karen Aguirre (Rey); brothers David Jeffrey Harman (Vickie), Richard Austin Harman (Angeline), Thomas Joseph Harman (Elena), Sean Robinson, and Aaron Robinson; numerous cousins and 26 nieces and nephews, too many to name but all dearly loved by their Auntie Denise.

Denise was preceded in death by her grandmother Ann Keener; grandmother Rosemary Thatcher; father David John Harman; uncles Joseph Johnson, Peter Johnson and Joe Albayalde; and sister Laura Roseann Harman.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Kenaitze Indian Tribe, Frontier Community Services and all the friends, family and neighbors who have reached out with prayers, condolences and meals. It truly has been a comfort to see such community love and support in this time of sorrow.

A Celebration of Life will take place Monday, August 8, 2022 at 3pm at the Fireweed Hall of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 222 W. Redoubt, Soldotna, AK 99669.

So sorry to learn of her passing. I will miss her easy laugh and quick smile. I was at Beemun's earlier this year and over the aisle I heard a familiar voice ask directions to something. I said, "Is that Denise?" and laughed a little. She replied, "Is that Vivian's laugh?" We met at the end of the aisle, staying six feet apart, gave each other 'air hugs'. We are all blessed to have her in Heaven on our side, cheering us on. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Denise.
