Karen Glenn Obituary

Karen Glenn
Karen Glenn of Midland, Michigan, died on March 1, 2023. She was born in Akron, Ohio, on January 2, 1955. Karen was one of three children of Helen (Martin) and William Glenn.
Karen studied biology and comprehensive sciences at Bowling Green University where she served as the Varsity Gymnastics Team Captain on an athletic scholarship. After receiving a Master's degree in Chemistry from the University of Akron, Karen worked as a Chemist and Senior Product Leader for The Dow Chemical Company for over 30 years. There she was known for her cross-functional leadership, intellectual curiosity, and an ability to create clarity out of ambiguity. In her words, she did not like to 'sit on the side lines.' Karen gave back to the Midland community in many ways, most notably as a member and avid golfer at the Midland Country Club. In retirement, Karen sponsored students in Uganda, continued to travel the world with her family, and nurtured her home garden to be a hummingbird sanctuary.
Karen is survived by her son Scott Guidotti, her daughter Marti (Nicholas) Groeneweg, her granddaughter Kyla Groeneweg, her mother Helen Elizabeth Glenn, and her sister Beth Glenn. She was preceded in death by her father William Francis Glenn and her brother William Martin Glenn.
Services will be private and entrusted to Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home of Midland.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to donate in Karen's memory to these organizations: National Wildlife Federation (www.nwf.org), Agape Community Transformation (www.actuganda.org), or Humane Society of Midland County (www.hsomc.org).

My sympathy to Karen's family. I was a gymnastics teammate and friend of Karen's at BGSU. She was a mentor to me when I first came to college, and I am grateful for the friendship we shared over time. Karen was a woman of faith and an effective leader who always made those of us who knew her feel valued - truly a life well-lived. Prayers to those who are mourning her loss.

I´m so sorry to hear of this. I am a year older than Karen and was on the BGSU gymnastics team with her. I periodically would talk and see Karen. When our BGSU gymnastics Coach had his stroke several years ago, we talked frequently since I was in contact with our Coach. We met up for a BGSU women´s gymnastics meet just prior to COVziD-19. I will let Coach know and the BG gymnastics team. Again, I´m very sorry for your loss and I´ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I worked with Karen on several projects. She was a master at putting together diverse teams, and getting the best out of each individual. Unlike most bosses, Karen was a participant, involved in day to day decisions and directions. One of the BEST! Dow owes a lot to Miss Karen!
