Walter Hewett Obituary

Walter Hewett passed away March 7, 2024 at home in New Caney, Texas after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Trudy; and sister, Heidi. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Michele; daughter, Jess and husband, Rich; stepfather, Robert and wife, Rita; sister, Ann; brother-in-law, Michael; and many other friends and family.

Walter worked in aviation for 35 years and was highly regarded by his peers as careful and methodical. He worked closely with different branches of the military for 14 years as a helicopter crew chief with various defense contractors. He transitioned to airplanes and worked for Continental and later United for the rest of his career as an aircraft mechanic. He was proud of his work, but was very excited to begin a retirement he was not able to fully enjoy. He spent his last few years watching reruns of Ancient Aliens and sitting in his garden in the sun watching his wife do yard work. He took great comfort from spending time with his family and his little dog, Oreo.

Walter was born in Germany and moved to Tuscaloosa, Ala., when he was six years old after his mother married an American GI. His family moved to different bases often, but he loved the Alabama Crimson Tide for the rest of his life. He played football and basketball as a young man and talked about getting out to shoot some hoops until he passed.

Walter was a curious, intelligent man with many interests and collections. He loved paleontology, fossils, archaeology, anthropology, cryptozoology, comic books, horror movies, action movies, motorcycles, cruises, football, and basketball, not necessarily in that order. He was a Christian and found his church home at Sun Valley Baptist in El Paso, Texas where Pastor Berg's scholarly, historical sermons fed his mind and his soul. He taught himself how to play the guitar very, very well and learned new music often by ear. For many years he could rarely be seen without a guitar, a cigarette, and a cup of coffee. He loved music and listened to many genres but connected most with hard rock, metal, and the blues.

Walter was an excellent provider for his family. He was a conscientious citizen, careful with his money but generous to his family, and very concerned with meeting his responsibilities. Walter now has eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven with God his Father and has put his earthly fears and worries to rest. He was beloved, and his loss is deeply felt.

If you would like to honor Walter's memory, consider taking your loved ones to your local natural science museum.

Walter was a great coworker and will be missed. We had some great conversations and laughs. I loved hearing about his military work experiences on helicopters and base visits around the world. He will always remain as part of the "LAW FIRM" in our circle. Walt Walt and McGee.
