ELIZABETH FULD Obituary

FULD--Elizabeth (Betty), passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024 with her loving family at her side. Her life was well-lived and she was well-loved. She was born to Jacob and Dora Schwab on February 12, 1919 in New York City. Had she been a boy, she would have been named Abe, after her birthday twin and her father's idol, Abe Lincoln. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard S. Fuld in 2011. Over the course of their long life together, Betty and Dick enjoyed traveling the globe and relished in their adventures. Back at home in Harrison, NY Betty discovered that she had a real gift for golf. One of her favorite golf partners was her younger brother, Martin Schwab who called her "Red." A great point of pride was winning the Women's Club Championship at Quaker Ridge Golf Club. Her volunteer life began as a jeep driver in the Women's Army Corps during WWII. She continued her life of service working in the gift shops at both Montefiore and White Plains Hospital. However, her most meaningful role in life was raising her two children, Suzi and Richard Jr. She is survived by her children, Suzi (Jeff) Marger and Richard (Kathy) Fuld, Jr; her grandchildren, Matthew (Erica) Buchsbaum, Merrie (Ken) Avallone, Meg Buchsbaum, Jackie (Howard) Schussler, Chrissie (Eric) Landy, Richie (Paige) Fuld III; great-grandchildren, Ali, Maddie, Isabel, Max, Jonathan, Laniey, Hannah and Charlotte; and her many nieces and nephews. Towards the end of her life, Betty received loving care from an extraordinary group of caregivers. Her family would like to thank Ana, Keisha, Ednah, Tasch, Doris and Ros Ann. We will miss Mom/Aunt Betty/Grammy deeply, but we are so grateful for all of the time we had with her. A private burial was held.

I knew Betty and Dick who were neighbors from Harrison. I grew up with Betty Schwab and she and Martin were our close friends in Sarasota. Both families were well respected and contributed so much to their communities.

Growing up in Harrison with Richy and the other members of "the Big Five", I always felt welcomed by Betty into my "second home" just a bike ride away. Thank you for putting up with our endless games of basketball in your driveway. May you rest in peace.

In 1954, when I was a baby, the Fulds moved next door to us in Harrison, NY. Little did I know then what an important role Betty (& Dick Sr.) would have in my life over the next 70 years...almost my entire lifetime. They were wonderful, caring neighbors---the kind that you hope to have when you hear people describe their "terrific neighbors!" When our parents died almost 20 years ago, I was recuperating from major spine surgery in my parents former home. Betty called to ask if they could come over with "a few sandwiches." A massive platter in their hands entered the house before they did, and from then on they seemed to adopt us to be sure we were okay 24/7/365. I marveled at Betty's ability to manage her check book well after she turned 100!!!!! An amazing woman and an even better friend who I shall miss dearly! RIP dear Betty and know that you were deeply loved while here on earth and shall be missed by so many.
