I just learned of John's passing in a conversation with Matt. I am so sorry to his family and the Sullivan's. I grew up with the Sullivan's on Belmont Pl. John was such a nice guy. John's rare appearances at the Cloghessy pool every Summer was a huge treat. A real cut up. He made a show of a cannonball off the diving board. Sometimes taking up to 5 minutes to create the biggest splash the kids of Belmont had seen. I am richer in life for the memories I have of John. And the entire amazing Sullivan family. Hugs

Sully and I were USAFA "partners in crime ". We drank Coors, smoked Old Golds, skied (using the term totally loosely),drank Coors, visited each others homes and laughed. His intelligence humor and integrity were unmatched. RIP my good buddy. My belated sincere condolences to his family.

John will be missed, yet he lives on in inspiring memories. He became Parliamentarian in l987 when I began as a member of Congress. He was always there to help: knowledgable, kind, and dedicated to his country and his"sacred" role. Condolences, prayers, and peace to his family. Connie Morella

I just read of John´s passing. I attended grade school at St. Anne´s with John.

It has been rewarding to see his accomplishments in life. More endearing is to hear that he was such a good person.

My deepest sympathies to his family.

John and I joined the Parliamentarian's Office in January 1987, and I had the honor and pleasure to work with him until my retirement in 2009. He was everything a good person should be -- fun, loving, supportive and considerate. Moreover, he epitomized everything a good Parliamentarian needs to be -- ethical, balanced in his opinions, and full of integrity. John was all that and more. He will be greatly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have worked beside him.

My condolences to all of Johns´s family. I worked with him at the House of Representatives and found him to be one of the nicest people I have ever known. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

I spent a decade working with John on the US House Floor and there wasn´t a day that his brilliance and kindness that he didn´t make better. RIP dear friend. I so enjoyed hearing your joy and delight at spending time with your grandchildren. I´m sorry I never got to tell you how much my son Nate loves his AF ROTC experience. John and I were good friends at the Academy, sharing summer programs and classes. Although our Air Force careers took different paths, John was always one of my classmates who first came to mind when I reflect back on those days. Blessings to his family.

I met John in "The Springs " the night before Basic Training started. Confident and funny, I am glad to have shared that four years. Coincidentally, we both share January 8 as our birthday, along with Elvis. Blue Skies and Blessings John.

I, too, had the privilege of getting to know John during our time at the Academy. We often were on the same teams during basic summer training and I always was grateful for his ability to add humor to a situation during tough times. Please know he will be missed.

I roomed with John for three years at the Air Force Academy. There are so many things one could say about John for he combined a rare intelligence with an even rarer charm, qualities which eventually led him to a position at the highest levels of the federal government.

The video of John's retirement ceremony from service as parliamentarian of the House of Representatives made it evident that Congressional leaders of both political parties knew what they had in John - someone who could and would help them solve some of their thorniest problems without fear or favor.

They were sorry to lose this special man as now we all are.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Nancy and the entire Sullivan family.

I am saddened by his passing and offer my condolences to friends and family. We shared the Academy and Air Force experience. I remember a calm, thoughtful, and kind man as we worked on projects. Thanks for your help along the way. "Good man." Here's a nickel in the grass.

I knew John only while he was at the Air Force Academy...and occasional greeting via emails. A ready to help type of person with a good attitude toward providing that help or recommendations. I'll miss his counsel and attitude of sharing time and talent to have the best outcome.
