Dennis Bielfeldt Obituary

The Luckiest Guy in the World: Dennis C. Bielfeldt

"These are the days that we must savor." It's these words-from one of his favorite artists Van Morrison-that served as a foundation for Dennis C. Bielfeldt throughout his life. On September 6, Dennis of Crown Point and Munster, IN passed away peacefully with his family by his side, leaving behind 79 unforgettable years and reminding us all to appreciate each and every day on this Earth.

Born on April 7, 1945 to William and Angeline Bielfeldt of Gary, IN, Dennis lived a life marked by love, gratitude, unwavering faith and loads of laughter. He married the love of his life, Adrienne, in 1976 and became a father cherished by his three children, Christopher, Carolyn and Nancy. His "happy family" and ever-growing circle of friends were his driving force and reason for being.

He was an esteemed alumnus of the first class of Andrean High School in 1959 and a proud graduate of Marquette University. Dennis had a long, distinguished career as an investment broker and financial advisor. Trust was his most valuable asset; he took great care and pride in helping his clients plan for their future.

He was deeply involved in his community, giving his time to St. Thomas More (STM) as a teacher beloved by his students, a coach and athletic director and providing financial counsel to STM and the diocesan board. Endlessly curious, he loved people and learning about the region, becoming an unofficial historian of Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.

Dennis lived with Multiple Sclerosis for nearly 40 years. While his diagnosis is certainly part of his story, he never let it define him. He confronted the disease with unrelenting optimism and resilience. He truly was "tougher than the rest," as his gal Emmylou Harris sang, and his ability to maintain a positive outlook inspired family, friends, and even his doctors.

A merry prankster with a roguish grin and wicked sense of humor. A walking encyclopedia of music, movies and sports trivia. An oyster addict and Bloody Mary enthusiast. A hot rod junkie and loyal Packers fan. A religious toter of Sperry top-siders and yellow sweaters.

He is survived by Adrienne, his wife of nearly 50 years; Christopher and wife, Christie; Carolyn; and Nancy and husband, Zach, and their son. He is also survived by his brother, Bill, and wife, Ronnie.

Dennis liked to say he was the "Luckiest Guy in the World," but, if you were fortunate enough to cross his path, you knew you were the lucky one. He will be missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date to honor Dennis' love for life and his family and friends. In his memory, the family welcomes donations to the MS Society and notes of remembrance.

I'm am truly sorry to hear Mr. Bielfeldt, has passed away. The entire family have my condolences and are in my prayers. I was an MRI Technologist that did his exams yearly. I remember his infectious smile and the sound of his laughter as we both shared corny jokes. He spoke highly of his wife and daughter.May he rest in peace and his spirit be raised to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
