Shannon Hewlett Obituary

Rev. Shannon W. Hewlett. Shannon W. Hewlett ascended into eternity on Friday, October 11, 2024. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and a graduate of Riverside High School and attended Chattanooga State Community College. Shannon proudly served as a Drill Sergeant in the United States Army and completed a tour in the Vietnam War and a member of the 101 Airborne Division. During his time in service, he received numerous accolades, including the Purple Heart. He was a proud member of the Greater New Orleans Football Officials Association and the Louisiana High Schools Officials Associations, where he served as both a football and basketball official. He retired after 21 years with Norfolk Southern Railroad and later became the owner of Jazzland Limousines. Shannon was inducted into the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. He was a dedicated member of M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F. & AM. Stringer Lodge No. 3, Worthy Patron for Herman P. Bush #173 and a member of the American Legion Post 500. Shannon was a follower of Christ, and faithfully attended New Hope Baptist Church where he served as an Associate Minister and served as the 2nd Vice President of the Evangelical Board of the Louisiana Freedman Association. His life, love and legacy will be treasured by his wife, Brenda H. Hewlett; daughters, Shondra H. Johnson (Zachary, LA), Shannon Monique Stepter (Baker, LA), Juaquana Lewis, and Tasia Stewart; his sons-in-law, Dwayne Stepter, Jr., Kelsey T. Lewis, and Steven Jackson; his grandchildren: Troi and Torrian Johnson, Ryne Knowles, Deja, Dwayne, III and Dallas Stepter, Chanel and Chason Jackson; his sisters, Iris Brown (Chattanooga, TN) and Angelia Cooper (Johnny) (Athens, AL); brother, Vernon Hewlett (Chattanooga, TN); his nephews, nieces, cousins, and the New Hope Baptist Church family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 10 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1807 Rev. John C. Raphael Jr. Way, New Orleans, LA 70113. Rev. Jamaal Weathersby, Pastor and Officiant. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Heritage Funeral Directors, 4101 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA., 70117.
