Dewey told me about our friend Billy's passing. We Whitsons moved from Gentilly Woods when I was 10. But Billy was one of 4 friends in GW who helped me in the transition to a new school and neighborhood by keeping the connection up with my GW friends for at least 4 more years including a lot of King Cake parties. I'm grateful to him for that. I didn't know him as an adult but Dewey has told me what a special friend he was. I send condolences from the 3 oldest Whitsons who knew the Condons well....Donna, Kurt, and Jeannie.

I only knew him as Mr Bill at Anderson Memory Care. He would occasionally say the rosary with us on Thursdays. He was usually very friendly even declining to join us. When he wouldn’t or couldn’t join us, we prayed with him in his room or if we caught him in the hall. He walked the halls and outside Anderson quite a bit. The staff let us know that Mr Bill had passed.

My dear friend Ellen, for many years I listened to various past and present day stories about your Daddy. I remember often seeing him and Mrs. Linda in the front pew at mass and I vaguely remember him making carline at SMM, dropping off or picking up Hailey. At first your stories were in real time, daily things like his fondness of cigars, fishing trips with him and Lonnie, etc. After your mom passed I learned more about him and even saw him more often. I was intrigued with his many talents artistically and professionally and when you asked me to help check on him this last fall at Anderson I discovered, not the same Edward William Condon II but someone just as unique. "Mr. Bill" became my friend and we spent some interesting time together watching TV, eating snacks, walking the halls and paths surrounding the facility, and even singing some old songs together, like "Ain't She Sweet" or "Chantilly Lace." He knew all the words! And if I ever ask him a question he'd simply answer yes or no then he'd say, "And that's a fact!" The disease that took him from you and from himself changed him but also gave you another glimpse at someone still unique and truly special. Thank you for allowing me to be there for him. I miss him now but I'm glad he's moved on and is free. Hopefully he's enjoying a good cigar, carving some amazing ducks, training some champions and sitting down to a crawfish table with Mrs.Linda by his side! My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Betsey, Eileen and all of your families. Love ya friend, Dawn

" Billy " as knew him all my life. Mom named him Edward William Condon III though there is no 2nd. Mom did not want her son nicknamed "Junior". There was Billy, me and Alphonse. Did you grow up in between 2 boys? Well at times it was a challenge when they gamed up on their sister. Later came Carmel and Daniel. Billy was a boyscout and I believe that is where he learned to carve. Billy was the first of us to work at Butler's Shoe Store in Gentilly. Later on Alphonse and I both worked there. We were very much into family. We went to see the Martiny's, dad's cousin, in Metairie. We brought lunch cause it was soooo far. We played hide and seek in Gentilly Woods at night. Can you imagine doing that today? The neighborhood had about 65 children in a half block. We always went to Mardi Gras with the Condon's and the Martiny's. Our Aunt Estelle made our costumes. One Mardi gras Bubba (our dad's nickname) took Billy, me and Alphonse to St. Charles & Gravier (our favorite spot) to the parade and Alphonse caught a chick and dad's car got towed and had to leave us on the street till he found a cop. The park attendant was not a park attendant. I was Billy's steamtress. I was always moving buttons on his cuff's before he went out on a date. Billy was popular with the girls. (or thought he was!!) Bubba fixed up several cars for Billy - His "Wolf Truck" and a Mustang. Billy was very talented. He trained his hunting dogs. Who gets up before work and goes out to the marsh with his piroge just to train his dog. He was math major and I believe he graduated from UNO with a 4 pt average. He also studied German??? He was one of the few Marine Average Adjusters in the US. Billy married a lovely lady Linda and had three beautiful ladies. We will miss you terribly. Say hello to Danny, and AL. Spread the kisses around to all the relatives. And tell Duane I love him.

Billy was a good friend and coworker. I had the privilege of hunting and fishing with him until his health failed. He was an all around outdoorsman. I remember people saying he was “Mark Trail”,
a fictional outdoorsman par excellence who was featured in the newspaper during the 50’s.
I will treasure the carved pistol grips that he made for me.

Dad, you’ll surely be missed! Thanks for teaching me to hunt, fish, curse, cut the grass all the things you may have thought a son to do. Since you had none I was the guinea pig! I don’t regret it. That made me into the strong, independent woman I am today and I am passing that on to my girl! Couldn’t have asked for anyone better to be my dad. Love you always!
