Doretta Briede Obituary

Doretta Smith Briede departed this life peacefully on June 9, 2022 at 3:24 p.m surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born Doretta Louise Smith on June 22, 1955 to August William Smith & Mary Peter Buchler Smith, who predeceased her. She is survived by her adoring husband of 40 years, Richard Charles Briede, her loving daughters Doretta "Dorie" Briede DeLucca (Jamie) and Allison Briede Badon (Marc), and her spirited grandchildren Mary Ryan DeLucca, Carolina Briede "Brie" DeLucca, James William DeLucca, Claude Briede Badon, and Richard Anderson Badon, and her sister Jennifer Smith Willis (Sterling Scott). She is further survived by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doretta was born in Westwego, Louisiana and was a longtime resident of Lakeview in New Orleans. She attended Holy Name of Jesus School, Mercy Academy, LSU and St. Mary's Dominican College. She was a passionate educator at Holy Name of Jesus School, Les Enfants, and the Academy of the Sacred Heart. Recently retired, Doretta devoted her life and love to her grandchildren, who she treasured more than anything. Aside from the joy of spending time with her little ones, she enjoyed gardening, going to the beach, Mardi Gras, rescuing and adopting animals, and recycling. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6367 St Charles Ave in New Orleans, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to HNJ School, 6325 Cromwell Pl., NOLA 70118 or Glass Half Full NOLA, 3935 Louisa St., NOLA 70126, are kindly appreciated. Richard - After Scott told me about Doretta, the first memory to emerge was Grand Isle family gatherings in the late 1960s. Doretta was the cousin who brought her Monkeys records to the island and played them for her younger cousins. There were large family meals and bonfires on the beach with Bill, Mary, Jenny, Doretta, and many other family members. To this day, I am awestruck by her grace and kindness. I am sure that you, your children, and grandchildren have many beautiful memories of being with Doretta, and have been the recipients of her grace and kindness. I wish all of you consolation in recalling your memories with Doretta. God bless.
