Darlene Percy Obituary

Darlene Hellmers Percy, of Lacombe, Louisiana, passed away on February 2, 2024, at the age of 69. She was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, born on March 10, 1954, to her loving parents, the late Donald Jacob Hellmers and Lois Helfrich Hellmers. Darlene is the beloved wife of 50 years to William Percy Jr.; cherished mother of Taryn Terrell (Jonathan) and Katie Degruise (Trent); proud grandmother of Katelyn Coleman (Darius), Maegan Terrell, Makena Terrell, Jacob Terrell, Olivia Bilello, Conner Bilello, and Mary Grace Bilello; doting great-grandmother of Violet Coleman, Jet Coleman, Ivy Kate Coleman, and Colton Frank V; adored sister of Marlene Kleinschmidt (Dean) and Donald Hellmers Jr., sister-in-law to Roxie Rouchon (Al), Lissa Gaffney (David), and Mel Percy (Tori); and God Mother to Rhett Kleinschmidt (Kayna) and Morgan Kleinschmidt. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews and a host of extended family members and friends whom she loved dearly. Darlene graduated from John F. Kennedy High School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University. Her friendly demeanor and organizational skills were assets in her career as a secretary. Darlene began her professional career at Fontainebleau High School and later retired from Whispering Forest Elementary School. She was also a former member of the Slidell Camellia Club. Darlene's family and friends will remember her for her humor, kindness, and zest for life. She devoted most of her time to caring for those around her and spending time with her family and friends. Darlene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. A funeral service will begin in the chapel at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations made in Darlene's honor to The American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Such a beautiful lady. My memories of Darlene are filled with laughter and fondness. Our Highschool years were great. I know she will be greatly missed. I pray comfort and good memories for her family in their time of grief.

So sad to hear this. Praying for Darlene's family for comfort. I have fond memories of her from Kennedy. We are but flowers in the field, here today and gone tomorrow. Darlene flowered beautifully in the field. May God continue to Bless her family and hold them in His grip.

I´m really sorry for your loss of your wife. I´ll be praying for you and your family as you continue to find strength to keep your spirits alive. Every day is a struggle, but you have your family and friends and your previous staff and you have the first graduating class to help you get through this difficult time. I don´t know why this happened but I´m sure she´s going to be in good hands with God and hopefully you two love birds will find each other again. Your wife would want you to continue with your life. Even though she´s in heaven, she´s always going to be with you in spirit. I know you´re hurting right now, but we´ll get through this together because we love you . God might not have all the answers when it´s time for you to leave but she loved you and you have all of these special memories that will be with you forever. I´m so glad that you were my principal when I was a senior.

Losing a loved one is never easy. I´ll do what I can to help you with this difficult time.

Mr. Percy, our prayers go out to you and your family during this time. My mom, Claudia, spoke so highly of Mrs. Percy and the impact that she had on Whispering Forest Elementary. May God give you His peace and comfort you in the days ahead.
