Knowing Aaluyah she wanted to stay but when she saw the Angels beakon for her she had to go because her time here on earth was to be no more. Her assignment was finished so to my mom, dad, family and friends you'll were the best and you passed the test now let God do the rest. Weep if you much but not as one without hope just know with Jesus you can cope. When you miss me just look up and I'll be smiling down on you. I had the immense pleasure of serving as one of Aaliyah´s peer leaders during her freshman year at Newman. I will always remember her infectious smile, unwavering kindness, and drive for success. I could always count on Aaliyah to give our activities her all, while inspiring her classmates to do the same. She led with a calm, respectful confidence that was unmatched and beyond mature as a then 14 year old. The Burras family should be incredibly proud to have raised such an incredible daughter. She´ll remain cherished in the hearts of everyone she met. Thank you for sharing her special spirit with all of us. May her memory be a blessing.

I am so heartbroken as I'm sure are many. I taught Aaliyah when she was in 5th grade. She was such a strong, confident young lady. At that age, she was fabulous & confident in who she was! She will be missed!

I could always count on Aaliyah to bring her positive attitude, infectious smile, and unwavering kindness to our after school peer leadership sessions. Her drive for success was evident in all that she did. Regardless of how silly some of the activities may have seemed to her fellow classmates, I could always count on Aaliyah to remain focused and encourage others to participate through her calm, but confident, leadership. My heart goes out to Aaliyah´s parents and family. You raised her to be an impeccable human being, who will remain cherished in the hearts of many. May her memory be a blessing.

A beautiful spirit. I remember at the age of 9 going to the park and meeting Coach Shawn. His family always embraced me with open arms (all of us). I remember hearing Mrs. Tonia in the stands during every game should could attend cheering us on because we were her children. I always looked at Aaliyah like a little sister. When Aaliyah and Bri were around it was definitely like seeing two sisters in action. Seeing you as a baby and growing up to become a young adult was a blessing. So many memories (Summer Camp, playing basketball at the park, tutoring others, Coach Shawn telling us you wanted to play volleyball and you mastering it, attending Newman, and even getting your MBA). I've seen Coach Shawn and Mrs. Tonia pour so much back into the kids in the community. I've watched them over the years attend your games and graduations. My deepest condolences to Coach Shawn and Mrs. Tonia. Sending love & prayers during this difficult time.

I will always have a very special place in my heart for Aaliyah. She was an upperclassman when my daughter was a freshman on the Newman volleyball team. She took her under her wing and encouraged her, guided her and supported her throughout the time they played together. When my daughter had her "breakout" game, Aaliyah was more excited than I was. She was a beautiful young woman and a wonderful role model.

Words cannot express the remorse and pain I feel upon hearing of this sweet child homegoing. My last encounter with her was the night of the Mystic Krew of Music parade. We rode on the float together and prepared the throws and all the other things that needed in preparation. We laughed took pictures and had a good ride on the float. Little did I know that this would be my last physical time that we would be together. As you know, this family has adopted me into their family. I share many of the family gatherings. My prayers and love go to all the family members, friends and especially the parents and grandparents. May this sweet child rest in peace. We will ride on the other side. ❤
