Donna Lee Calabria Poeta, 73, of Old Lyme, beloved wife of the late William Louis Poeta Jr., passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, June 13, 2022. She was born on December 27, 1949 in Sewickley, PA and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Jane Mihalik Calabria.
Donna was a graduate of Sewickley Valley School of Nursing and was employed as a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at the Endoscopy Center of Connecticut. Previously she was a CRNA at Saint Raphael and Yale New Haven Hospitals for over 30 years.
She recently lost her husband Bill last month after 40 years of marriage.
Donna enjoyed gardening, crafting, making floral arrangements, attending horse shows with her daughter, and spoiling her dog, Olivia. She was well known for her perfectly styled hair and nails, as well as her sassy personality.
She is survived by her daughter Devon Poeta of Attleboro, MA; stepson Ryan Poeta and his wife Kim of Shelton, CT, and their children Landon and Leighton Poeta.
Donna is also survived by six siblings: Chad Calabria and his wife Michelle of Beaver Falls, PA, Craig Calabria and his wife Catherine of Yardley, PA, Celeste Calabria and her husband Michael of Essex, CT, Glenn Calabria and his wife Kathy of Moon Township, PA, Diane Mabourakh and her husband Shahriar of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Shawn Calabria and his wife Shari of Germantown, TN. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews, her faithful dog Olivia, and grand-chinchillas Chili, Pepper, and Theodore.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 24 from 5 to 8 PM at the Fulton Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln. in Old Lyme. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, June 25 at 11 AM at the Duck River Cemetery in Old Lyme.
