Arden Schwartz Obituary
Schwartz, Arden Diane Sumner of Cheshire, formerly Hamden passed away on February 14, 2024. At age 87. Born June 10, 1936, in New Haven to the late Reuben and Lea Goffin Sumner. Predeceased by husband Allan Schwartz. Mother of Barton, Eliot and Ariane (Jon) Racow. Grandma of Ashlee (Matthew) Moore, Jesse Racow and Zachary Racow. Great-Grandma to Samuel Alister Moore. Sister of Stephen Sumner. Many accomplishments and hobbies throughout her lifetime. Graduate of Hillhouse High School '54 and Traphagen School of Art and Design, NYC. Completed 4000+ hours knitting hats for YALE's NICU, Taught Chinese Cooking at Hamdens Night School. Enjoyed folk music, house hoots, time with family and attending the Clelian Senior Center in Hamden. Contributions may be made to HART (Housing Association for Retarted Today) or Clelian Senior Center Hamden, CT.
The funeral will be Graveside Sunday, February 18 at 11 a.m. at the Temple Beth David section of Hillside Cemetery, 166 Wallingford Rd., Cheshire, CT.
Family and friends all are welcome immediately following the ceremony at 100 Bates Dr., Cheshire

Racow family,
We are so sorry to hear about Arden's passing. She is a loss to the local Jewish community and to all her friends from traditional folk music and dance. It was always great fun to go out to the diner after concerts with your parents.

It would be hard to find a more genuine, compassionate person than Arden. I had the beautiful opportunity to know her from two different jobs, but I got to see her true colors shine in her time at Clelian Center. She would be one of the first to take a newcomer under her gentle wing, making sure to always feel welcome. She gave the best hugs, like her soul was holding mine.
To Ari and the family, thank you so much for sharing her with us all these years. Being able to see her in these last weeks meant the world, and I will cherish those moments forever. Love to you all.
