Albert Clark Obituary

Albert E. Clark
Albert E. Clark, 75, of North Haven passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, after a peaceful evening celebrating New year's Eve with family. Al, known to those closest to him as Sluggo or Slug, was born on August 28, 1946, to the late Francis and Robertine (Tidd) Clark in Bellows Falls, VT. He was a proud Veteran of the US Marine Corps, having worked up to the rank of Staff Sergeant during his multiple tours in Vietnam where he earned many commendations, including multiple Purple Hearts. He took great pride in having served his country. He never left the house without wearing something reflecting his service in the Marines whether it was a shirt, sweatshirt, hat, or even a pin when he dressed up. He kept in touch with many of his fellow servicemen, particularly later in life. Slug was a brilliant mind with an even better sense of humor. He spent much of his time enjoying the great outdoors: hunting with his nephews, fishing with his kids and grandkids, and camping with lifelong best friends Ricky and Ellen Graboweicki. A family man until the very end, Al cherished spending time with his family and traveling with is late wife, Margaret "Peg" (Holcomb) Clark. He was an active member of the Wallingford Elks Club and the Wallingford Rod & Gun Club. He also donated his time volunteering at the Wallingford Wishing Well. An avid fan of NASCAR, he never missed a Sunday Race. He is predeceased in death by his wife (Peg), parents (Francis and Robertine), and his brother, Robert "Butch" Clark. He is survived by his son Jeffrey (Jennifer) Clark, and two daughters Jennifer Clark and Jamie (Robert) Ljunggren. He was the grandfather of eleven grandchildren: Taylor, Erica, Kyle, Jaccob, Breanna, Hannah, Connor, Kaylee, Katrina, Evan, and Vicktoria. He was also great-grandfather of Greyson. Albert was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His light and life will not soon be forgotten. Services will be private, with a Celebration of Life for all friends and family at a later date. The Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven has been entrusted with arrangements. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com

I remember Sluggo as a young girl growing up in Bellows Falls. He was our neighbor, kinda. for rural VT in the 70's. His father owned the Flying A, one of two gas stations in town. My father was his primary mechanic. He met the love of his life, my aunt Peggy when she would visit us. I remember the day he told me he was going to Vietnam. It was winter and we were out in the scramblers having fun. I was a young girl, but he treated me like I was his sister. He married my Aunt Peggy and they had Jeffrey Michael and then Jennifer Marie. I would spend summers in West Haven with them helping out with the kids.
I moved West when I reached adulthood and was not very good at staying in touch. BUT, when my mom got sick and was dying, Sluggo was my rock. I remember sitting up with him in my moms room and he shared some of his experiences in Vietnam. I was so honored and grateful to have such a honorable man in our family. Rest well my friend, I am so happy you are with Peggy once again.
