Raleigh, North Carolina - Katherine "Kay" Mary Barno Hayes was born on March 4, 1936 in Michigan to the late John William and Helen Katherine Schlag Barno. She died on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Rex Hospital.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kenneth Hayes, son Thomas Michael Hayes, sister Marion Lusko and brother William Barno.
She is survived by her daughter: Deborah Hayes Long, of Raleigh; sons: Robert John Hayes (Judy), of Jacksonville, FL and David James Hayes (Phyllis), of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three grandsons: Douglas (Corinne), Daniel (Kari), and Jonathan Hayes; great-grandchildren: Emalynn, Celeste, Valerie, Khloe, Rylee, Wyatt, Wilson and Natalie; sister: Geraldine del Cano, of Endwell, NY; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10 am in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, NC). Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Ronald McDonald House Charities of ENC - 529 Moye Blvd. - Greenville, NC 27834 or www.rmhcenc.org.
The family would like to express appreciation to Always Best Care Senior Services of Wake Forest, Falls River Village, Rex Hospital 7 West and 5 East, and Heartland Hospice of Raleigh for their loving care and support.
