Matthew Stewart Obituary

In loving memory of Matthew David Stewart, born Nov. 10, 1981, who passed away on July 13, 2022, from a cardiac event.

Beloved father, brother, friend and co-worker. Beloved father of Sage and Baylee Stewart and Erin Benfield. He is survived by his parents, Kimberly and David Stewart; siblings, Alicia Stewart and Josey (Amber) Stewart; nephews and nieces, Dominick, Myla and Ellis Stewart; and aunts and uncles, Jesse and Dede Aragon and Ray and Claudia Stewart. We was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jesús Antonio and Madeline Aragon and Janice and Charlie Stewart.

Matthew attended Ticasuk Brown Elementary, North Pole Middle School and North Pole High School.

Matthew worked as a fire captain at North Star Volunteer Fire Department in North Pole, Alaska, and Steese Volunteer Fire Department. He also worked for the Fairbanks Fire Department. Matthew was a fourth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and owned and operated Three Dragons Martial arts studio in Orlando, Florida, specializing in working with children with special needs. Matthew obtained his Eagle Scout Order of the Arrow in North Pole, Alaska. Matthew was also a strong advocate for Boy Scout troop 149 in Meridian, Idaho.

Matthew's enormous heart and capacity to love will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Matthew's smile was always the first thing you saw; his heart filled with love for everyone. Matthew was always the first person to offer help and the person who was called to fix it all. Matt ... you will be missed every second of every day.

The world doesn't make sense without Matthew in it, and his family has been so grateful for the outpouring of love and support that has come on his behalf.

We would like to thank Diamond Heating and Cooling of Boise for their kindness and generosity during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the La Mirada Ward for the amazing food delivered to Matthew's home.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Matthew's two children, Sage and Baylee, at gofund.me/9479aba4

On this anniversary of his passing, I can still remember Matt coming into my office and 'attempting' to teach me sign language. We had some good laughs at my attempts! Matt was always 'learning' and 'teaching' while 'sharing' his new knowledge - such a giving heart he had! He will always be remembered and I'm sure that all he 'shared' continues to be passed on.

Matt was a blessing in our lives. He was a great teacher, and a great friend. He was endlessly patient, positive, and exemplified the concept of peace through strength in everything he did. Since moving from Orlando, he has been greatly missed, and now so much more so. We would like to offer our deepest condolences to his family. Rest In Peace, sir.

Matt was very accomplished for his age. He left an imprint on everyone he met. Matt was not afraid to think outside the box and always demonstrated a kind demeanor. Many strived to be like him but he was unique in his own way - making his own path. Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and those who he touched in the world. Matt, you left too soon but you certainly left an imprint on everyone's heart to last several lifetimes! May those who are left grieving, fill their hearts with the great memories we had of Matt - for then, he is never gone - he just lives on in our hearts.
