Dorothy Wilson Obituary

Dorothy Rose Wilson
Dorothy Rose was the second of 9 children born to the late Minner and Wilson Dossie. She was a beautiful baby who was idolized by her big sister, Willie Mae. Her mother said Willie Mae would look at Dorothy so adoringly and whisper, she's my Baby Sister, and began to call her Baby Sister. As the family grew, everyone adopted the name Baby Sister. And throughout her entire life she was affectionally called Baby Sister by special people in her life.
Dorothy was raised in the church (St. John Missionary Baptist) and gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age. She graduated from Rosenwald High School. But before she graduated, Woodrow Wilson noticed her coming from school and wanted to get to know her better. He knew he had to go through her dad and needed to make sure she was interested. She was, so Woodrow began to talk with Mr. Dossie about courting (dating) Dorothy. Mr. Dossie had many questions and conversations with Woodrow before giving him permission to see his daughter He was pleased with Woodrow's responses and character and gave his blessings. Mr. Dossie and Woodrow developed a special relationship. Woodrow and Dorothy's courtship was so wonderful they married June 14, 1956
As she pondered on the type of job she should pursue, she knew it had to be with children. Dorothy worked at the Kiddy Kollege for approximately 4 years before beginning her career at Early Childhood Services, retiring after 38 years service. During her career with ECS, she earned her Associate of Arts degree from Gulf Coast Community College in 1982. It was fulfilling and she enjoyed sharing some of her experiences with the children. God blessed Dorothy and Woodrow with 4 beautiful children, and she had the desire to spend more time with them. After much thought, she retired in 2011. Dorothy had a gentle spirit. To know her was to love her. She loved the Lord and the Lord loved her. Dorothy always told everyone that she was "blessed".
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Woodrow Wilson and two sons, Woodrow Jeffery Wilson and Wyatt Stephan Wilson. Survivors include her children, Martez Allister Wilson of Orlando and Tanya Wilson (Lester Ashe) of Panama City; her grandchildren, Tsipora and Jared Ashe and India Wilson; a great-grandson, Wyatt Ross; her many siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 14, 2020, at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Markeith McCarthy officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
