Willie Lindsey Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 12, 2022.
Willie Oquin Lindsey was born March 26, 1934 and died May 12, 2022. He was born on a farm in the Chalk Mountain area in Somervell County to Joe Gordon and Margie Estel Thompson Lindsey. He grew up with his three brothers moving across Texas following highway construction work.
Willie went to four different high schools. After graduation from Stephenville High, he attended Tarleton State College. He started at Texas Tech in 1956, but his life as a Red Raider was interrupted by Uncle Sam. Willie always said his army career was mostly spent fighting wind, sand and barbed wire at Fort Bliss in El Paso while serving in the capacity of a military police security guard. After another interruption by the Cuban Crisis in 1961, he finally in 1963 graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Willie began his career with the Texas Department of Transportation in Austin in 1964. He retired in September of 1993 after thirty years of service all in Highway Design as a Specification and Policy Review Engineer and Assistant Engineer of Project Services.
While at the Texas Department of Transportation, Willie met Shirley Dockall and they married on July 31, 1971 in Austin. Last year they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
In his 40's he began his love of running. He did numerous marathons. His favorite being the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth which he ran many times. His best time being 3 hours 43 minutes. He also ran 10ks and a whole lot of 5ks. One of his goals was to run at least a 5K in all 254 Texas Counties. He almost accomplished this with 227 of the counties. He was a lifelong learner and avid reader. He always carried a book along to read in his spare time. He enjoyed playing dominoes (42), watching football, working out in his yard, having coffee with his friends at Starbucks and working out at the Georgetown Recreation Center. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and family, whom he loved very much.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Donnie Dayrl Lindsey, Gordon Dale Lindsey and Juacaine Lindsey.
He is survived by his wife, sons, Jeffrey Oquin Lindsey (Angela), Joel Matthew Lindsey (Suzanne), daughters, Jennifer Sue Lindsey and Joni Lindsey Crush (Chris), grandchildren, Lauren Olivia Lindsey, Elisa (Ellie) Grace Lindsey, Kaylyn Madison Lindsey and Keaton Matthew Lindsey as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and special nephew Mark Lindsey.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Bushdale Cemetery in Rockdale, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Bushdale Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 664, Rockdale, Texas 76567, Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 3800 Shell Road, Georgetown, Texas 78628, or a charity of your choice.

i just heard about Willie's passing and offer my sincere condolences to his wife and family. I enjoyed working with Willie - he was the go-to contact for specifications and he was a lot of fun to play volleyball with.
