Steven Smith Obituary

Steven Lee Smith, 58, passed away on April 7, 2025. Steve was born on March 2, 1967, in Anderson, Indiana, but spent most of his life living in Lapel, Indiana. After high school, he went on to be a proud sheet metal worker for Bright Sheet Metal with the Local 20 until he retired in 2008. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for his job. When he was not at work, he spent his time coaching softball sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport.

After his retirement in 2008, he devoted his life to spending time with his dearly loved daughter and grandkids and in his garden where he was passionate about growing tomatoes. He was well-known in Lapel as the "tomato" man as he shared his produce with the local community. He also loved spending time on adventures with his lifelong significant other, Amy.

Steve is survived by his loving family: Daughter Taylor Powers (Kyle), his cherished grandkids, Ava, Ana, Rhett, and Benson; Parents, Rick and Dianna Smith; Sister, Kristi Kurek (Mike); Nieces, Hannah and Baylie; and lifelong significant other, Amy. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Rexanne (Workman) Beam.

Our hearts are shattered as he will be extremely missed as he blessed our lives greatly with his fun-loving humor and infectious smile, as he was always smiling!

A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Lapel Eagles Aerie 4323, 110 East Ninth Street, Lapel, IN. Celebration is from 3-5pm with service at 5 p.m.
