After a courageous 10-month battle with cancer, Silvia Holloway passed away on August 1, 2021, in Rocklin, CA at the youthful age of 53. She leaves behind her husband, Marcos Pastrana; her daughters Juanita Rios and Brianna Holloway; her son Andrew Holloway; her stepson David Pastrana; and her stepdaughter Sara Pastrana.
Silvia was born on September 25, 1967, in Tijuana, Mexico, to Miguel Renteria and Juana Morales Renteria. She grew up in a large and loving family, with five brothers and four older sisters. Silvia had a penchant for livening up a room with her creativity, her jokes, quick wit, and her willingness to be your partner in crime on the dance floor or in a game. Silvia was athletic, independent, and always up for a challenge. She loved cruising in her truck down Mooney Blvd with those she loved the most. Silvia was always willing to lend an ear and offer advice without judgement. Silvia was a cheerleader for those she cared about. Her contagious laugh and beautiful smile had a way of letting you know everything would be okay.
After a three-year courtship, Silvia married Marcos Pastrana on October 30, 2010, and the couple built their life together in Rocklin CA. From that time forward, Silvia graciously accepted Marcos' children David and Sara Pastrana into her life as if they were her own.
Silvia was passionate about her family, especially her nine siblings, her 28 nieces and nephews, and her 37 great-nieces and nephews. Her other passions included thrifting, crafting, and gardening. Silvia was gifted with the ability to take the used and discarded and transform them back to life. Silvia enjoyed the outdoors and was especially fond of camping and hiking in the mountains or on the California coast.
Silvia worked for the Sacramento County Office of Education for 23 years, before retiring in September 2020. Shortly after her retirement, Silvia was diagnosed with advanced uterine cancer in early November 2020. During the next 10 months, Silvia fought a courageous battle, enduring countless setbacks, painful treatments, and multiple hospital stays. However, through all she endured, Silvia never let her cancer define her, and she never gave up hope or faith in her ability to overcome and be restored. She is a testament to resiliency and perseverance. On July 26, 2020, Silvia suffered an ischemic stroke that, despite heroic efforts, she was unable to recover from.
Silvia is survived by her husband, children, and stepchildren, as well as her sisters, Yolanda Valdez, Bertha Cruz, Maria Renteria, and Herlinda Cruz; her brothers Lorenzo, Juan, Raul, George, and Freddie Renteria; and a very large extended family spanning multiple generations. She is preceded in death by her parents, her nephew Joshua Renteria, and her brother-in-law Richard Cruz who was like a father to her.
On August 11, 2021, Silvia will be laid to rest near her mother Juana Morales Renteria at the Corcoran District Cemetery in Corcoran CA. A memorial service and reception will be held for Silvia at the Tulare Community Church in Tulare CA. Silvia's family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff at Sierra Hematology & Oncology, who cared for and supported Silvia during her battle with cancer. In addition, they would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses at Sutter Hospice, who cared for Silvia in her final weeks.
